Conte tactical plans have been sussed out now. Spurs have dropped 5 points in 2 games and have given gooners the advantage for 4th place.

Brentford defensive 442 shape stopped spurs attack and they were 352 attacking. so no spaces for harry and sonny to run into, and our panicky / sloppy passing and giving away corners added to their pressing game we were lucky not to have lost 2-0.. Rating imo is 5/10 for spurs. must do better ! COYS

As I said in the last thread no game is, a gimme
Some how Arsenal beat Man U today, as you all know I am no Man U fan, but today they were the much better team.
Today we didn’t win, also, we didn’t lose, this team put 4 past Chelsea lately.
We do need fixing, we can’t change a game up, because of personnel, our lack of midfield offensive talent is obvious, there is no driver to run the show.
With that said we’re back to our old habits of slowly, slowly, sidey, sidey play, Little movement from the forwards, and over run in midfield
Kane and Co look lack lustre up front
Funny when it comes to the crunch, over the last lot of years, some of our team in big games, for both club and Country, just can’t step up and be counted.
We can’t get past the crowded defence, in fact we can’t even get a shot off against a crowded defence.
Positives, we didn’t lose and we’re still in the “interesting” zone
Negatives, too many players not giving enough, too slow and pedestrian, no real game changers on the bench.

I am delighted by anticipated Eriksen reunion. After watching him lie on the pitch at the time of his heart attack, it is sooooo sweet to see him playing again. Well survived, mate.

  • block 108 spurs says:

TK yes we are all agreed on eriksen survival.

Now that he is back on form, and Man Utd new dutch manager wants him ? Newcastle ? I hope he stays in London with spurs… I think his connections with spurs is strong enough to re-sign for 1 or 2 years…COYS

Phew. We were so lucky to escape with a point. Outplayed yet again with no shots on target. That’s nearly 190 minutes.
Another couple of ridiculous substitutions. We need to win so Conte brings on a defender that hasn’t played for months. ( Mind you, Sessegnon was poor and no where near the player he was for Fulham) Then he gives 5 minutes to Lucas at the end of the game. Quite ludicrous.
I also noticed our sad coach disappears down the tunnel whereas their coach shakes hands with players of both sides and the officials.
Nice touch to see our players greeting Eriksen.
Eriksen then went over to our fans and signed a shirt for a disabled fan. Great touch. Also Eriksen was far better than any of our players.
Harvey White still did not get a game. He was a teenager a while ago and is now nearly 33 years old waiting for a game. He cannot be worse than Sessgnon.
This was yet another poor performance from the team and the coach. We were very , very lucky.

  • Geofspurs says:

Well, of all the possibilities on offer from here, one is quite spectacular. Wouldn’t it be nice to tie down a CL place on the back of a win against our neighbours?!

    • wentworth says:

Niall. Sessegnon has made no progress. In fact he was a far better player at Fulham.
Also Emerson Royal has been a huge disappointment. Neither wing backs can cross the ball which destroys Conte’s set up. Yesterday, there was no service to the front men. Also, we do not have an Emerson to send through balls or long passed.
Yesterday showed our extreme limitations coupled with Conte’s strange substitutions which seemed to throw the towel in again.
Mind you we have a very weak bench which has to be addressed in the summer.
We must not sign cheap bench warmers.
Also we need to develop one or two of our own.

  • Niall D says:

    Yep poor result yesterday
Not a great performance, if we’re honest the woodwork saved us twice yesterday rather than good defending.
Is Sessingnon bad or was it a tentative return and a lack of sharpness, as around February he looked to be progressing well.
More worrying for me is that whilst indeed we have gonec180 ish mins without a goal or shot on target, I think Kane is now, around 400 mins, without a goal and in fact (I think) only has about one from open play since the start of March.
Our forwards need to find a way to break down a team that parks the bus.
Need a clearout in the Summer and quite a few fresh faces in.

  • Niall D says:

    Agreed WW
Sess was indeed a better player for Fulham, just as Gil is a better player currently in Spain as indeed are LoCeslo, Froyth in their current sides.
I could go on, CCV for celtic.
I still wonder what happens when we sign players, prospects or other wise, they put a Spurs shirt on and become mediocre to crap.
Re Sessingnon, I did think he was starting, just starting to show a bit of improvement early in the year, I was giving him the benefit of the doubt for yesterday after his return from injury, but if I’m honest, he hasn’t progressed as many thought he might when we initially signed him.
I suppose he could also go during the, Summer with little upset.
I just hope we get back to winning ways, pronto.

  • block 108 spurs says:

Niall As to players from other leagues signed by spurs then are below par, then back to their original league, and stellar performances. It could the pressure of PL levels of performances which are higher and more demanding than spain france etc. With 7 or 8 teams fighting for top 4 / euopa qualifications, where there are 2 or 3 in different european leagues. Also quality of some players skills and mindsets needed to be better, and those here for the money…??. ( Or could it be spurs Levy & co. way of running the club??)

Conte has mentioned this pressure syndrome already, and will have a clearout in TW

  • TK says:

The truly discouraging things is the inability for two matches vs. two mediocre opponents to put shots on goal. We came from nowhere to forth place and had the CL in our hands to gain, and then seemed to regress to having the offensive capability of a team of 12 year olds with palsy.

A loss to the goons of goonertown and Conte can take his coaching back to Italy where a 0 x 0 result can be considered tactically brilliant. In north London the expectation is to put some shots on goal so that some of them can go in.

Come on you mofo Spurs. Get shots on goal at the very least. You know, the goal defended by the other team.

  • Niall D says:

Probably right B108 it is that bit easier to shine in a “less competitive league”
TK my issue is that when it matters, cup finals, important league matches etc our “Big players” lose their bottle a bit, don’t step up when the pressure is on.

  • TK says:

    Niall,

I fear that the other managers have worked out how to defend against the formation Conte has installed–with the width of wing backs, etc., and he hasn’t had time to install alternatives, so when the formation is defended well, the team isn’t ready to adjust. No friggin shots on goals more than once. Terrible. This is a tactical problem and we haven’t yet enough players or enough time to have installed answers to the adjustment opposing managers have begun to figure out.

  • TK says:

But what do I know. Mine always are the comments of an absolute knobhead. Totally knobheaded. So obviously the problem is neither with limited personnel, or with limited tactics, or with lack of time to install alternatives. What does that leave? The gods have it in for us?

  • Niall D says:

    TK
You could be right, I’ve always thought that there was, a Banshees or Gip$ys curse on us on many occasions, look at the CL final, for example.
However I look at games, and other teams just seem to have more oommph, they appear to play faster, as when we get the ball, Lloris holds on to it for an age, let’s the opposition re-group then we go back wards, and side to side at a very slow pace.
We just seem so much slower than other teams, it had picked up for a while, but something has happened to bring us back to this, what ever it is crap “nothing” play.
In my head I know that it has to do with our mid field and and being over run but fek me it’s a hard watch.

    • Arky says:

Happy clapper here and a believer of the Conte way.
Something is wrong in paradise Niall D. I do hope that its just the growing pains of more fundamentally sound team being fashioned by Conte. Two matches without a shot on target does me head in too.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

It’s season ticket renewal deadline day coming up. With Champions League qualification now unlikely it’s time to revert to PlanB. Let’s have lots of transfer rumours leaked out this week and even throw in a Poch coming back story. That’ll get everyone renewing.

  • Niall D says:

    Morning Arky
Im in the same boat as you, I do think Conte can progress us, given the right backing.
Currently we are restricted tactically, as we have limited personnel, and some of our players, simply aren’t up to, “the job” required of them.

  • jod says:

This will go down as the season no one wanted fourth place. The lack of consistency among all the pretenders has been baffling. Its always been our problem of course, it doesn’t matter what you can do at your best if you can’t grind out a win when its not your day. but its not just us, United have been worse. I’ve got to give Arteta some credit, his squad is limited but its given away fewer points. To me its about mental strength, not ability. Most of the points we’ve dropped have been against teams we should have beaten, some days we’ve just not turned up. Yet we can beat City. You can see it with the way Tuchel has had a go at his players after the Arsenal game. It made no real difference, Chelsea will finish third regardless. But Tuchel understands that isn’t how a top team behaves, they go into every game trying to win it. Its a lesson we seem very reluctant to learn.

  • TK says:

    Arky,

as Xenophanes said, if oxen had written the stories of the gods, the gods would have cloven hoves and tails. To blame the gods is to blame ourselves. We see ourselves in the stars in the sky.

  • TK says:

Spurs supporter to Spurs players: “What’s wrong with you fellows playing so piss poor against weak opponents? Not a shot on goal for two matches. You’re embarrassing us.”

Spurs player to Spurs supporters: “Have you seen the supporters we are playing in front of? You lot have no idea how hard it is to live in London on 45 thousand quid a week. I need double my salary if I’m to get motivated to try to play a bit.”

Spurs supporter to Spurs players: “Maybe we shouldn’t pay you a farthing until you get some shots on goal.”
