Match Thread – Could Spurs Take A Small EL Advantage In Our Second Game Of Ludo

|

Following on from Tottenham Hotspur’s sterling victory over Manchester City in our last game, fans will be hoping for the same kind of attacking nouse and defensive strength when we face Ludogorets Razgrad this Thursday in our next Europa League Group J clash.

I’ve been tardy this week but PhysioRoom list five doubts. Erik Lamela isn’t expected back until the weekend following his knock, and both Matt Doherty and Toby Alderweireld are listed as having no return dates just yet. However, both Japhet Tanganga and Harry Winks are potentially expected back for Thursday – but I’d imagine both would be touch and go.

With Razgrad yet to pick up a point in Group J, there’s every confidence we can take our third victory and ideally Antwerp and LASK would share a point to give us a small advantage as we go into the final games.

As ever though, it’s not about relying on others, we know we can get the job done ourselves – we just have to avoid another slip up.

I’ve seen Sanchez play some very decent games for us, I think his main problem is consistency which could be down to concentration/awareness issues sometimes.

  • 123spurs says:

I hope vinny can get on the score sheet tonight. We should win, a clean sheet no injuries will do just fine.

  • 123spurs says:

Agree TQ he’s not a bad player but it’s his positioning and some decisions making. Surely King can have a word with him, its all about reading the game

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Starters:
Hart, Doherty, Sanchez, Tanganga, Davies (C), Winks, Ndombele, Dele, Lucas, Bale, Vinicius.

    Substitutes:
Austin Whiteman Aurier Dier Reg Hoj Sissoko Kane Son Clarke White Scarlett

Welcome back Sanchez, Tanganga and Dele.

I’m looking forward to seeing that front line working together. With Vinicius scoring a hat trick and Dele, Lucas and Bale adding a couple more at least… 😉

    Spurs 6-1 Ludogorets!

    Up the Spurs!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Cool……Dele’sback! Liking the look of our front 4.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Feels like we are starting to get a small delay in posts appearing again now and then.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Joe Hart’s having the night off again.

Should kill them off easily in the 2nd half… And Vinicius is up for his hat trick… Which is nice.

    Up the Spurs!

Jod – Skipp may or may not make the grade, and it’s also a possibility that our cover for Hojbjerg may not be at the club yet. Time will tell.

I’m surprised to see NDombele start, but Jose must have his reasons. For the rest, does this mean we can expect Bergwijn to start on Sunday?

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I think we’ll knock in a few more as they tire.

Credit to the players. They did very well and showed good movement and passed the ball well. Dele 2 assists and a 2nd assist, he need that. Vinicus 2 goals will give him a boost as well. Tanguy getting better, 2 CD davy and japhet no real problems. Now, winks incredible effort sae goalie off his line, a HK10 goal… On to chelsea 4 pm sunday, dele’s favourite team to score against… COYS

  • Stan Rosenthal says:

I see the BT pundits were raving about Dele’s performance in this one sided game. Yes he was involved in three of the goals but one was a lucky deflection, one was an easy pass when he should have scored.and to me a screwed up too many moves with misplaced passes and his usual fancy flicks that came to nothing. He still has a long way to go before he becomes a first team contender,
    .

  • TQ2Spurs says:

To be fair I thought Dele worked hard off the ball which is what I think Jose has been expecting from him. I do agree, he was trying too many ‘flicks and tricks’, but his confidence is clearly quite low at the moment but I could see this improving as the game went on. I wouldn’t want to be too critical about him trying something unexpected as this has worked to our advantage in the past when trying to break down stubborn defences.

Good result tonight. No Euro game is easy. Bearing in mind this is 11 guys who don’t often play together.
    We done well.
Good to see Vinny on the score sheet and as a provider. I think he will do OK for us provided he is given the opportunities.
Dele had that wee nasty streak I like, back in his play, but as others have said just too many flicks that didn’t come off.
Winks, I’m not even talking about the goal here, but this is the way I want to see him play.
A few attempts on goal forward passes a couple of attempts on goal.
Why doesn’t he do this in the Prem rather than his safety first play.
I thought he was brilliant tonight the goal was just window dressing.
    COYS.

    • TQ2Spurs says:

Niall…….I think the answer to you question is that Winks is usually playing a holding role in order to rest Hojbjerg, I’m not sure they have played together very often but the introduction of the latter last night allowed Winks to venture further forward. Of course, the lack of attacking threat from Ludogorets (apart from a short period in the second half) also helped.

  • Geofspurs says:

Joe Hart was easily the MOTM …. he gave a masterclass on boredom avoidance.

  • jod says:

The fact we could play for 60 minutes with a midfield of N’Dombele and Winks with Dele further forward as a number 10 shows how dominant we were. This was the performance Jose was expecting against Antwerp, I noticed in his interview after the game Winks was stressing that they started with the right attitude. To me Dele setting up Vinicius instead of shooting himself was a good sign. Dele might have scored himself but the keeper was diving to block the shot, Vinicius had an open goal he couldn’t miss. There were good individual performances, Dele looked better than he has for some time, Vinicius looks the real deal, N’Dombele was terrific driving through the midfield. But more than anything it was a team performance, everybody did their job.

From the perspective of the Chelsea game it was exactly what we needed, win with squad players. Even Holberg only played 30 minutes, we didn’t need to bring anyone else on. Instead we were bringing on youngsters towards the end. So we should be in about as good shape as we can be after a mid week game on Sunday.

  • BelgianSpur says:

I’m surprised Hojbjerg was even brought on at all… But, a win and no injuries – what more can we ask for?

  • TQ2Spurs says:

BS…..I think the game was slipping away from us a little at around the time he was introduced, I guess Jose felt the need to add a bit more solidity into the middle to make sure it didn’t slip away any further.

  • Niall D says:

I would now suggest that we are entering a very important phase in our development. I would argue given the opponents we are about to face plus the busy schedule between now and December 20th will let us know exactly where we are as a team and just how strong mentally as well as physically we are.
Spurs are coming into a phase where we are playing other contenders teams with good squads and managers.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

You’re not wrong Niall, I think if we can get 3 or 4 points from the two London derbies we can say we have done well.
