Match Thread – Conte Seeks Five Wins On The Spin As Spurs’ Top Four Chase Continues With Brighton

|

With Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte watching his side rack up four wins on the spin with an impressive second half performance against Aston Villa last weekend, it has given us a small advantage over north London rivals, Arsenal, in the chase for a top four spot – and we are still to face them for the final time this year in May’s White Hart Lane clash.

For now, it’s all eyes to this Saturday’s early afternoon clash with Brighton and Hove Albion, and we again have home advantage over Graham Potter’s draw specialists. Under Potter, Brighton do play decently attractive football and can be tough to beat, but they do struggle to score offensively, so any level of performance similar to our last second half showing should see us blow them away comfortably.

Having beaten Arsenal in their game, Brighton will be in good spirits though and will be looking for another scalp to improve further on their good season, so whilst Spurs should be very confident of making it five wins on the spin, we certainly can’t have any complacency ahead of this.

Team wise, Matt Doherty is a doubt after his early substitution but we won’t welcome back Japhet Tanganga or Oliver Skipp for this one.

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

Thanks Danny for the new thread, Cockerels v Seagulls.

4th place is in our own hands now, so another win v The Seagulls is required, tough opponents but we are far superior to them, thus for me a win.

Let em ave it lads…..4-0 COYS

    • BelgianSpur says:

Unfortunately 4th still isn’t fully in our hands yet.

In maths, a result can only be certain if there is no other possible outcome.

However, in our case, Arsenal can also still theoretically claim that they control their own destiny. If they win every single game they have left (unlikely), and managed to overturn the GD difference (even more unlikely), they could still pip us to 4th.

It’s a strange case where essentially both teams can still claim that they contriol their own destiny. When that’s the case, neither really do.

Hi Danny thanks for the thread, trust you’re keeping safe and well
I’m currently on antibiotics post COVID as it hit my sinus and wouldn’t go away
So a whole head septic Ted.
Re Brighton, I’d love to put em to the sword early and get an easy run.
They are a dangerous team, but I do feel Arse were a tad unlucky against em (fortunately).
WW saw your last post re 2 players, totally agree and get your point chum.
We are heading in the right direction, however if last week shows us anything, it is that we can be open to chances, espically from free kicks, we are week at RB currently and I do hope it doesn’t come back to bite us.
But can only see a Tottenham win on Saturday.
    COYS.

Villarreal, has some connections well done to them, 4 ex spurs players, and one from arsenal plus the manager.

A win on Saturday and hoping united Nd arsenal drop points before we play arsenal and pool. We can do this.

  • TK says:

Two more assists to HK. A goal to Son. What else is new?
A goal to Cool Luke Kulusevski.
One smart save to Lloris just when we could have an early fall behind.
3 points and a pint for the day.
our miracle came true. when it looked like naught could come of this season we find the final four is in our hands. no one can catch us unless we let them. Wow indeed.
top four finish will make it more attractive to sign new blood.
come on you, spurs! our’s is a good COYS. donate now.

Conte (and coaches) has his players management / tactical formats very effective now, and a couple of days off has we hope made a good enhancement to players mental and physical conditions. With HK10 returning from USA golf event he will be ready to continue the run of wins on saturday. So I expect a 2-0 + scoreline and kane to score a goal 🙂 COYS

The ericsen situation..I think spurs could bring him back and he could be a player and do his coaching badges so he can work with the academy squads in the future.

A win against Brighton would put Arsenal and Man U under huge amounts of pressure.

We play Brighton (H), Brentford (A) and Leicester (H) in the next 2 weeks.

In that time, Arsenal play Southampton (A), Chelsea (A), Man U (H), and West Ham (A).

    Man U play Norwich (H), Liverpool (A), Arsenal (A), and Brentford (H).

The race for top 4 may effectively be over if we can get max points from our next 3 games.

I just can’t see Arsenal getting much more than 6 points from those 4 games, and I can’t see Man U getting more than 7.

  • PompeyYid says:

For me, next 3 or 4 games points achieved…

    Spurs, 3 games = WWW 9pts
    Gooners 4 games = DLWD 5pts
    Manx = WLLW 6 pts

There I have said/written it, my hard hat is on ready for repercussions lol!

    Am very confident! COYS

  • Niall D says:

    Morning PY
No hard hat needed (IMO) I hope it’s a “night cap” you’re wearing and your dreams come true. 🙏🤞😉

    • PompeyYid says:

Thanks for that Niall, the only “night caps” I have are either Woods Rum or Pussers Rum, mind if my forecast come true, I will wear a Spurs Cap to bed! Mrs PY wont be to happy lol! nah! wait a minute She would be in hysterics lol! COYS

  • Niall D says:

    Good call PY
I hope Spurs don’t make a”Horlicks “of it, we have no distractions, and indeed a decent run in compared to others.

  • block 108 spurs says:

Niall…. If our players mess up and we finish 5th or worse… We can have a new brand of bedtime beverage… spursy horllcks…. lol

  • PompeyYid says:

Horlicks to the lot of ya, lol! COYS

  • Niall D says:

I just want to be a happy ovaltienee at the weekend. 😉

  • jod says:

Different calculations come into play at this stage of the season. For instance I did have West Ham down as a tough game for Arsenal. But that match is going to be sandwiched between the two legs of West Ham’s semi final against Frankfurt. If I was in Moyes position I’d be putting out my reserve team for that one, an easy three points for Arsenal. It all comes down to winning your own games so you don’t have to worry what the others do.

  • block 108 spurs says:

It will be a massive game v arsenal for us, and a must win game for spurs and same for them. So obviously I want a spurs win..2-0. Conte will be really motivated for this one as he is annoyed how arsenal manipulated PL game schedule v spurs, and our players will be as well.

West Ham reaching their 1st european semi final in 46 years will be a priority so a win for arsenal looks highly possible. Hopefully gooners will drop a few points v chelsea etc.

  • BelgianSpur says:

Yes, the West Ham game might not be as hard as it might have been under other circumstances, but Arsenal still have to play Man U and Chelsea and in both instances, those teams need the points. If Arsenal drop 3 or more points in those 2 games, we still would be in a decent position as long as we keep winning the games we should be winning. That starts tomorrow against Brighton.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    THFC 7-0 B&HA!

    5-0 will do…

    Up the Spurs!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Brighton have turned their form around over the past couple of games following a losing streak. Still expect us to continue our confident free scoring form and win comfortably. 3-1 Spurs.

  • 123spurs says:

Big big game to start the day off. Let’s not get over confident as we are now have the favourites tag on us.

  • Geofspurs says:

3-0 but I won’t complain if HT is right.

  • Geofspurs says:

I wish all the ‘experts’ would stop talking us up.

Don’t forget thegame goes for 90 minutes …. so consider early comments!
