Match Thread – Can Spurs Make It Our Turf At Burnley Or Does The Year Get Worse

|

So, Tottenham Hotspur fans are still pouring over the poor defeat in midweek to Norwich City in the fifth round of the FA Cup and with the game being our fourth defeat on the spin across all competitions, there’s not an awful lot of confidence as we prepare for our trip to Turf Moor to take on Burnley in Saturday’s late kick off.

Burnley...

Win

Draw

Lose Again

What could be said about Norwich has been but there are definitely questions surrounding the Burnley clash and manager Jose Mourinho basically implied post-game that players were running on empty.

“As you can expect it was a difficult game, as I could expect some of my players were really, really in trouble and they made an incredible effort to try. Harry Winks was completely dead. I think he’s started 11 to 12 games in a row, we had many, many players in trouble. I don’t have one single negative feeling towards my players, the opposite, they tried fantastic things. I am really, really sad for the boys, I can cope with the bad result and with negative moments, I’ve had so many, but I am really sad for the players. In this moment I have to think about what’s next and I have to speak to my club because I think some of these boys to have a chance to fight Tuesday for a Champions League position they just can’t play on Saturday. Particularly in forward positions, behind we’ve got options but not going forward.”

There will be those who agree with Mourinho when he talks about our forward positions given the injuries we have and our upcoming games, but equally, there will be those questioning selections and having odd players wildly out of position, which certainly can’t be helping their own confidence.

Youngster Troy Parrott was decent in my eyes and got himself into the mix, but you certainly wouldn’t expect to see him in this one given Burnley’s more physical approach, but the biggest question – as ever – is which Spurs side will turn up, regardless of who Jose picks.

Should the Champions League even be a priority given our domestic form – our upcoming matches don’t exactly get easier?

To ease the further growing tensions, we need a win and to draw a line though…and the more negative just can’t see it coming.

To Dare Is To Do and all that, but will we?

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

Bit of a love in here HT…..I agree with you too! 🙂

    • PompeyYid says:

HT & TQ…thanks for that, was only trying to lighten the mood, because no matter the result I will still have to do my excellent/thanking job lol! COYS

  • TQ2Spurs says:

    Page 2 imminent! 🙁

Come on Danny, what the **** is happening to sort this issue, it must be over 3 months now and has become as depressing as the issues on the pitch. Are Vital also waiting for the summer transfer window so they can bring in someone who knows what they are doing?

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Alright, I give in!

I’d stick Vorm up top and put the Parrott in goal. I’d have an 8 man back-line with Dier and Toby lobbing long balls up to our lonely goalie up front.

And when Vorm is looking worn out after about 10 minutes. Stick Gazza on!

Dele as right back. Bergwijn at LB, Lo Celso in central defence and flanked either side by a patched up ‘Arry and Son. Pochettino’s boy to be given 30 secs at the end if we need a goal!

The rest is up to Jose, Levy and Lewis!

    Up the Spurs!

    • TQ2Spurs says:

‘the’ Parrott HT? Not just any old Parrott then, wouldn’t be a Norwegian Blue by any chance? 🙂

      • Hot Tottingham says:

Norwegian Blue TQ? I wouldn’t know. I’ve never seen him so I don’t know what colour plumage he has!

Ask the sad man in the dugout.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

It’s page two time folks! That’s me done for the day. I got more important things to do…

I’ve got to see a man about a Parrott! So my delusional pessimism is needed elsewhere!

Is Greavsie available? Hoddle? Sherwood?! Mike England? Perryman, Chivers, Klinsmann? Blah blah….

    • PompeyYid says:

HT….am shocked, though the way things are at the mo I ain’t, but it must be really having a detrimental effect, lol! otherwise how can you put “Timmy” in with those other SPURS LEGENDS. COYS

      • Hot Tottingham says:

Are you saying that Sherwood is not a Spurs legend?! How dare you to do and say such a thing.

I’ll have you know (as would Tim himself); As our gaffer he had a better win percentage than the other “Special One” currently has…

  • El Jefe says:

HT lol – I think we are in for a very tough match – if we made it tough on ourselves on Wednesday night at home to Norwich imagine Burnley away especially with all the physicality they bring to their game – we’re in for trouble this evening for sure. Hoping for a win – we need it to stay in contention. I read on the other thread your comments about not rushing players back especially as regards being fit for next season – I wonder if it would be worth the risk if we are still in contention for 4/5th and a CL spot next season come the end of March?! Anyway in JM I trust LOL!

  • Niall D says:

Just watching The Lpool game. You know what it is sometimes, Luck. But I’m looking where Liverpools defenders are when they are in an attacking position they are further forward than our midfield was during the week. As many have said I could live with winning ugly but losing ugly OMG.

Watch out. We could be in for 3 more defeats. We are already in a worst position than last year. Disastrous team, disastrous manager (coach?), disastrous chairman and disastrous owners. We need a complete overhaul and to start that now. Nothing to be proud of this season. Bring back Poch and lets have some style and optimism put back into the club. So fed up with Jose’s miserable excuses and his hopeless defensive tactics. We used to be a great passing team with massive possession. Now we get run off the park by lesser teams with enthusiastic youngsters who want to win. Our recent signings are mediocre to say the least and we are playing like a bunch of misfits. Lo Celso is trying hard but he is not an Eriksen at his peak. We could do with both. And as I have said many times, we fail year after year to sign back up for the knackered Kane who no doubt will be considering his future. Would not surprise me if Son is beginning to wonder about his future too. Serves us right. Levy must stand down. Surely, he realises he is a fault.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

THFC: Lloris (C), Tanganga, Sanchez, Dier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Skipp, Ndombele, Lamela, Dele, Bergwijn.

Subs: Gazza Aurier Sess Winks Lo Celso GedsonLucas

Come on Jose. Come on Lads. Come On You Spurs!

  • Geofspurs says:

Just saw the team …. I guess JM has given up on a top six finish. He must expect us to win the CL. What the hell is he thinking?!

  • El Jefe says:

Saving Aurier, Davies, Winks, Lo Celso, and Moura for Tuesday night it seems – 2 games for Skippy in a row – hope he’s recovered OK looked knackered on Wednesday night – thought Fernandes might have been worth a go. Glad to see N’Dom in just hope he can have a good game and not get injured as usual.

  • El Jefe says:

Have to say very defensive – will we hold out and hopefully nick something at the other end?! 4 CB’s in defence, 3 CM’s and only 3 attacker’s and of those Lamela always tracks back hard. Doubt it’s going to be pleasant on the eye or an attacking display as many would want – like I say defensively sound and hope to nick a goal if we’re lucky – can’t see us doing much more than that! As PY says these days STILL COYS and hoping for a win!

  • Stan Rosenthal says:

Four centre halves in defence plus Dier in midfield. No striker in attack. Is that a record? And will this game be worth watching?

  • Stan Rosenthal says:

Four centre halves in defence plus Dier in midfield. No striker in attack. Is that a record? And will this game be worth watching, unless the game plan is to go for broke in the last 20 mins.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Bit of a defensive looking line-up. Seems to me he is prioritising CL.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

I’m all for Spurs being defensive… When we are defending…

  • Ade says:

Injuries or not, I can hand on heart say I’ve never seen a Spurs side play such turgid football in my life 😩😩!

  • 123spurs says:

    No way Jose

  • TK says:

hard to remember a Spurs team looking worse on the pitch than this team is today. Mournho precisa ir fora. Vai embora, Mourinho. Mourinho OUT! This is a terrible embarrassment to watch. The man is passed his sell-by date.

  • Danny Winter says:

Players looked dead and broken to me at the full time whistle? A point is a point.

  • wentworth says:

The moody, miserable Mourinho is given a lifeline. But we are so poor. Late in the tackle, poor passing, few shots on goal, another goalkeeping blunder, nothing in midfield. This is probably one of the worst teams in recent seasons. We used to play with style, slick passing, lots of possession, dominant midfield. Now we chase shadows with a hotchpotch of players that look disillusioned and depressed. I dislike the moping Mourinho intensely. He is dragging our club down. Also time for Levy to realise he is a big problem and should disappear. Enic out. Lovely stadium, rubbish football team. No youngsters to lighten the gloom despite fabulous training facilities.
