Match Thread – Can Spurs Get Three Points From The Barcodes

|

Having secured back to back victories over Brighton and Hove Albion and West Ham United ahead of the late March international break, Tottenham Hotspur are back in action on Sunday afternoon as we welcome Newcastle United to White Hart Lane.

Newcastle (ignoring wider issues with their takeover) have had a woeful season again and were hot favourites for the drop this year until their form slightly improved in more recent weeks. With that said, ahead of the break they registered back to back losses so whilst Eddie Howe’s side will be looking to get back to winning ways to draw a line, manager Antonio Conte should be going into this one full of confidence and ready to watch us register three on the spin.

Unless there are late injury issues from the remaining internationals scheduled, it’s a case of as we were with Japhet Tanganga, Ryan Sessegnon and Oliver Skipp ruled out, and although there is a doubt over Ben Davies, he should make it for the weekend really. Newcastle on the other hand have a plethora of names out, and although one or two might pass late fitness tests, the injury situation is something we really should be taking advantage of.

All eyes to Sunday then.

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

Great result, very good top 4 performance, it shows we do have a decent 1st team.
    HT nearly called it right.
Encouraged by goals scored from different players than our usual, this will be a big confidence booster. COYS.

Niall yes it was a spurs team goal scoring game, and should have been 6 or 7. It was good to see that HK10 passing from mf excellent again. So a job well done after going 1-0 down.

At this stage of the season conte has to give senior squad players game minutes to keep them sharp, and we cannot risk young players in chase for top 4 place…the young players will come through in time. Lets hope palace get a result against gooners tomorrow. COYS

ps. dier said this week what we have been saying for 3 or 4 years… spurs players are set in their comfort zone / complacent , and conte has shaken them up, and its good to be competing for places on the team. 🙂

Totally disagree Block. We had a chance to try out our cobweb covered, disheartened youngsters and we bring on Winks. Shocking team management. Total waste of opportunity. We know all about Winks, Moura and Bergweijn who will be gone in summer.

  • Niall D says:

    Disagree to a degree WW.
Whilst I empathise with your belief that we could and should blood our youngsters.
As B 108 says, we’re not quite in the drivers’ seat and we may still need our more senior squad in latter stages, who knows Conte may wish to keep Bergs (I dunno) or as I’ve said many times he could be putting some of these players in the window in a convincing win to sell em on having been involved in dominant team wins.
Thus (perhaps) adding a few quid to a players value, or, maybe a player will want even a bit part in a successful team.
For me it’s win, win for Spurs and Conte, but I do (WW) take your point.

  • block 108 spurs says:

WW I do understand your desire to see young players in the team.. However this is like sending boys to do a man’s job in games and conte can’t do that as too risky at present. No room for slip up / dropping points to get 4th place. COYS

100% behind keeping the senior pro’s ready n match fit, this is really no time for the nippers, it actually could blunt them! playing them in these must win matches, even as only subs when the game is won. COYS
