Hi Danny thanks for the thread chum
Geoff cheers for the thoughts on the last thread, still feeling💩 and testing positive, but it’s not as bad as some people have got so, relieved to be just this bad.
Indeed the win and nature of the win and indeed the opponents all made to lift my spirits.
W/Ham have always been a bogey team, we play em off the pitch and somehow they come away with something, but not today.
As I said earlier, it’s amazing how a workman like performance, by a fit team who play together can become very entertaining.
We’ll done looks like two good signings (Jod).
Top now we’re suckin diesel (what ever the price😉)

Bloody hell Geoff, this getting up in the middle of the night here in Oz is exhausting! But how can anyone sleep when the mighty Spurs are on song. I could only follow the commentary and stats so really looking forward to seeing some highlights later. But now for some snoozing on the beach. 😎

  • Geofspurs says:

It was certainly an excellent TW this time. Bentancur is all class and composure in the middle and Kulusevski is all attack and purpose going forward.

A good, entertaining game. Spurs played well and at no stage did I think we would not get all three points. COYS!

  • 123spurs says:

Great win, still in the mix, another set piece son got caught out ball watching hasn’t he learned you always be goal side of your man. I think we have the feel good factor slowly coming back.

  • jod says:

Interesting game. Moyes seemed to think his side threatened to get back in the game late on. I’d have to disagree. They had plenty of possession but did little with it. Their only goal came from a corner, in open play they knocked the ball around without ever creating anything. We were playing a kind of slow, slow, quick game where we also seemed to be just knocking the ball around but would suddenly change gear and cut them open. As always we looked most dangerous on the counter attack. Its how we cut open a team that comes to simply defend that bothers me. Kane and Son were the difference, West Ham simply don’t have that kind of quality up front, but really nobody had a bad game. We also broke the win 1, lose 1 routine which has to be a good thing.

  • Niall D says:

Fek me positive from both Jod and 123
Conte must be doing something right iin his tenure.
Now many of us, myself WW, and, a few others have been banging on about the negativity of Winks, hopefully now the fog has lifted, Bentancour has shown what playing in that position can bring and it isn’t about always playing the “safe ball”.
I was looking at Winks as a banker (no pun) to perhaps run down a game 2-0 up with 15 min to go, but now I don’t see the progress, cash in and get rid.
Thought the first 11 were excellent today, set pieces are a bit of a weak spot, but our signings in Romero, Deki, and Bentancour, with Hoj Sonny and Kane with Lloris in goal are surely something to build on.
Still in the mix for top 4, it can happen COYS.

  • Geofspurs says:

    LT …. Where are you?

    • Love totty says:

Hi Geoff, a long way from you still. Stayed in Brisbane for the first week but now in Coolum on the Sunshine Coast. Got another 4 weeks here in Oz and plan to spend a week or so in Port Douglas before returning to Brisbane. More family time rather than exploring this vast country. People don’t realise just how big it is. We flew in over Broome and landed in Brisbane 4 hours later.

  • Geofspurs says:

Sounds like a great holiday. LT. You are three hours in front of me. I watched the game at 12:30 last night (this morning). Enjoy yourself and stay safe, mate.

  • Geofspurs says:

Not sure why pundits keep saying you have to stop Kane and Son to stop Spurs. It’s true of course, but It is almost impossible to stop world class players for 90 minutes because they will make something happen at some stage of the game. The reality is that they are simply too good. Aren’t we the lucky ones? lol

  • block 108 spurs says:

Geof we are indeed lucky to have kane & sonny. Now with conte training tactical instructions and 2 new signings we are defensively stronger than earlier games and are moving the ball quicker and on the counter attack devastating 🙂 Spurs need to keep their belief and confidence, play with enjoyment and we can get 4th place at end of the season.

Keep safe there in Mandura (you too LT in gold coast. Try to visit russell island my cousin lives there, its really good she says) as omicron covid is spreading in West OZ i hear from family in Perth.

  • Allan says:

Really pleased that my concerns ref opponent strickers didn’t play out . I also watched the game !!!
The improvement we have seen in the last 3 matches has been excellent and give Conte tremendous credit for this improvement .
I feel that we may have dropped too many points to achieve 4th but finishing 5th would be good . Can’t see Arsenal slipping up but you never know .
Interesting to see several ‘ moaners ‘ changing their tune . However if we have a bad result the negative comments will re surface I am sure
Have a good early TW and next season could be good .

  • jod says:

We were debating in the ground after the game how far off the best team we could put out that eleven was. The conclusion was it was pretty close to full strength. I’d definitely have Sessegnon ahead of Reguilon as a wing back. Bentacur and Hojbjerg have formed a really good partnership but would Skipp get in there ? not sure and given how long he’s been out and where we are in the season its probably a question for next season anyway. Kulusevski has earned his starting berth but I wouldn’t lose any sleep if Moura played. So very close to full strength. The problem is that there’s really a lack of depth to carry you through a full season, you can’t play the same players every game though we’ve tried to often enough. Still with the games left there will hopefully be enough recovery time between matches to play a settled side.

  • jod says:

Allan – How exactly would finishing fifth be “good” ? Either you get into the champions league or you don’t, its a win/lose situation. This “its an honour to take part” attitude doesn’t do us any favours. I’m pretty sure Conte isn’t going to see fifth as a success, it might affect whether he stays or goes.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Jod – when you say you were debating, that suggests that you were actually listening to other people’s opinions. Would you like to rephrase.
A fine performance yesterday. Maybe we will clinch that coveted Europa League spot after all.

  • Geofspurs says:

jod …. I think Allan is saying that 4th looks beyond us (and that could well be) therefore finishing 5th would be good as it looks like it’s the highest position we can realistically expect at this time …. certainly better than finishing 6-20. Given this, the CL discussion is irrelevant. It’s all about perspective and changing expectations as the season progresses. Every supporter does it.

  • jod says:

Geofspur – The way I see it either you get a champions league spot or you don’t, if you don’t then where you finish is largely irrelevant. What worries me is we know two things about Conte, he doesn’t stay anywhere very long and he’s used to winning. So I can see a scenario where we fail to get fourth and he decides we just don’t have the mentality to win and he’s wasting his time. If that were to happen then frankly whether we finished 5th or 20th would make no difference, we’d be in real trouble. The problem is while many Spurs fans are happy with coming close managers like Conte simply aren’t.

  • Niall D says:

    Geoff
Must agree, whilst indeed 4th is only a, “far pavilion” it is achievable with a fair wind and a bit of luck.
We have to try to cement 5th position, if only to show our intent and indeed improvement on last season, and whilst the Europa league is indeed a, squad sapping competition, I would see it as that, somewhere to start some of using our squad players, give them minutes and confidence along with a smattering of the “Big boys”.
I know this is perhaps an unpopular theory, with many wanting our strongest 11 at all times, my hope is that finishing in the top 5 will indeed lure a better standard of player to our team which will actually see us with a stronger balanced squad which can afford to put a strong 11 out for all competitions.
And we could win the bloody thing.
As you say m8 in my book 5th was always better than 6th, but Jod who is into finance and all that obviously thinks different, 😳.
And of course we’re going to get better players by “not” trying to finish as high as we can in the league.
What was the film “build it and they will come” well we built it, and they didn’t.
Build success and they will come, the only way to build success as Jod said to show improvement, now where I come form if you were 6th last year and are 4th or 5th this year that’s improvement.

  • Geofspurs says:

jod …. That’s all true but if Conte sees signs of progress he may thhink differently. He knew success was never going to happen at once and that it was going to be a challenge.

  • Geofspurs says:

ND …. Yes, it’s all about gradual improvement, although most managers and supporters demand quicker success which does not often happen without unlimited finance. Our two new boys look like they are going to improve the team’s performance. That’s a solid start. If we can find a couple more like that in the next window we will be competing for a much higher position.

  • jod says:

Niall D – You don’t attract players who can take you to the top by finishing fifth. You attract them by winning titles and/or the champions league or paying them a lot of money. If you aren’t even competing at that level then forget it.

  • Geofspurs says:

jod …. That’s just another version of the chicken/egg problem.
