not a bad day at all. smiles all around. wish i’d been able to see the match.

    • wentworth says:

Harry Kane. Complete midfielder. Superb passing, two footed, great shots, superb vision, good tackler, great in the air. What a player. He is obviously captain on the field
      Refs always go to him.

  • 123spurs says:

Great result after the setback. Imagine a top striker and kane feeding him.

  • Niall D says:

Yep folks great result, as I said very early in Contes’ tenure, it’s amazing how an athletic, workman like performance suddenly becomes entertaining.
What over 15 attempts on goal about 6 on target, 20 goals scored in our last 4 or 5 games.
But we do need to stop giving away foolish free kicks in dangerous areas, as the set piece seems to be our achilles heel currently.
HT keep up the predictions, plenty of prep time for our next encounter.
    COYS
    And common Palace.

  • Love totty says:

I’ve only seen the goals so but I think the possession and attempt stats speak for themselves. This is the difference these two Old Lady boys have made to our performances. We now have the nucleus of a top team and a few summer upgrades and keeping the deadly duo up front, will put us back in contention hopefully.

  • Drdrums11 says:

It’s very nice to see Doherty performing at a much higher level in the last few games. Both he and Royal score goals from the immensely important wingback positions in Conte’s system. It leaves so much to the imagination of how great we may become with top of line transfers coming through in both right and left sides in these areas. What a pleasure to watch Spurs blow away Newcastle, a side that has frustrated us many matches as of late.

  • BelgianSpur says:

We are obviously still relying on Arsenal to slip up, but we are at least doing all we can to keep some pressure on them. We can’t ask for much more, as fans.

Arsenal have a very tough week coming in April, which will see them face Chelsea, Man U and West Ham in quick succession. With a bit of luck, they may yet drop points.

How we are still in the conversation for top 4 is beyond me – I’ll put it down to Conte’s brilliance and our rivals’ fragility. Either way, I agree with Conte that finishing in the top 4 would be a miracle – which would make him… a god.

  • jod says:

Conte has made the point the fact he’s had more time on the training pitch has been important and you can see it on the pitch. We are better organised and mentally tougher. Arguably we are coming good at the right time. How far that can take us remains to be seen but at least it puts pressure on Arsenal.

Lots of good performances, Romero was outstanding, Doherty seems to have figured out how to play on the wrong side of the pitch, Kane was brilliant. The one blemish for me was the free kick they scored from. It was up at the other end of them pitch from my seat and everybody around me was saying “I want to see that on the TV”. Well having watched it we just didn’t set up properly.

I wonder what odds I could have got on Davies, Doherty and Emerson all scoring in the same game while Kane didn’t get a goal.

  • jod says:

Its all very well talking about new signings but unless money is spent well there’s no point spending it at all. We don’t need any more N’Dombeles at £55m a time, we might as well just have a bonfire and burn the money.

  • Niall D says:

Good to see so many positive comments.
Was looking a our player ratings for yesterday and perhaps for the first time in a couple of seasons everyone was 7 and above, this is the kind of performance we have needed for a long time.
In previous seasons we would’ve either capulated and lost or at best gotten a draw, I would argue even under Poch,
but now there appears to be a mental strength coming into the team.
The soft underbelly is receding and people will soon be saying, Leedsy or Evertoony.
If we can hold on to Conte, and indeed somehow stay in the top 4, I feel we do have a chance of a very good league run next season and indeed a trophy.
This depends on getting a few new players in to strengthen key positions plus decent back up for certain areas.
With that said and both HT and I said it we do have a decent nucleus of a team there LT also thinks this, but it is maintaining this standard with new arrivals.
Funnily enough this is usually when the wheels come off the pram for us, as either Sonny, Kane or both end up injured because of being over played, but not this year 🤞.
Just hope Conte doesn’t get poached by the likes of PSG, the evidence of improvements in our team under his management is clear for all to see.
    COYS.

  • PompeyYid says:

Now that’s the way to do it, Spurs did as I asked “Let the Geordies ave it”

An overall excellent team performance esp the 2nd half.

Kane/Modric/Eriksen whatever his name is had a fantastic 2nd half, but not mom, for me it was Romero played like a King of Defenders for the whole 90+mins.

Up close was those two “reject signings” by some, Bents n Kulu, they have added so much, in CM and Attack, thus all around em playing with confidence.

It is bloody obvious the work Conte is doing, Spurs are “all for one, one for all”, heard that before somewhere, fighting, battling, being proud of our shirt, the baby steps I said months ago are getting into strides now.

Right we did our bit, now Eagles peck them Gooners Arses! COYS

  • BelgianSpur says:

I agree jod. Spending on the right players has been an issue for some time at our club.

Steve Hitchen has his fans but our recruitment track record under him was erratic at best. before him, Baldini and others didn’t really do better. I am hoping Levy has finally realised this, and delegated football decisions to other people more talented than him in that respect.

The most important thing for me is continuity, and alignment with the manager’s plans. There is no point spending big on a player, albeit a very good one, if said player is ill-suited for the system our manager wants to play. Obvious talent, but a square peg in a round hole.

We have made this error time and again, never fully committing to a manager. That has to change.

I’d like to think Conte has done enough already to be trusted with a greater say in our recruitment. But I suppose we’ll just have to wait until the summer to find out.

  • Niall D says:

    100% BS
It just shows how one or two players with the right attitude, who fit into a system.
Jod spoke about next level and these players weren’t, I don’t know, but what I can say is that they have helped our team become next level.
I do think that Conte/Paratici have to a degree taken charge of players in/out, if we look at who left in January, I could never have seen that happening last season, so perhaps Levey is actually now in listening mode.
If we do get several players of the calibre (not next level) of Kulu, Bente, and Romero for RB, LCB etc… I think we’ll be doing pretty well next year.
But we need to target our players and not, I think your quote is apply a Scatter gun approach.
Time will tell, but IMO we need to keep Conte.

  • 123spurs says:

Spot on Niall regards set pieces, as I said before if these players were able to up their game by 10 to 15% this is what you get more times then not, long may it continue. 7 plus ratings for all 11

  • Drdrums11 says:

Our two winter signings of Bentancur & Kulusevski are a pretty clear indication of a much improved scouting and player acquisition capacity w Conte having a solid say in the mix. These two players have lifted the squad to higher level of performance. The difference in quality of Bentancur over the likes of Winks in the midfield is striking. We’re able to break the press and maintain possession of the ball so much better. A couple of highly skilled wingbacks and more overall player depth and we may be into the top echelon next season. Conte knows what he needs here and now w the improvements should have the leverage over Levy to make him move faster for his desired players.

  • wentworth says:

We must not allow Lo Celso, N’ Dombele and Gil to return to Spurs.
We need to offload Winks and Bergweijn.
A couple of decent signings should complement the present 11 that seem to becoming a workmanlike unit. A couple of decent subs on the bench and some enthusiastic youngsters should complete the bill. COYS

  • Niall D says:

I must admit that those mentioned by WW do indeed need to go.
Particularly Winks, for me, when I look back he has, been much too safe and pedestrian in his play, he has been the sidey sidey backwards player, with little in the way of drive or ambition.
I was roundly criticised by some on this, site last season for my negative comments, about him not offering enough either in attack or defence and that he was little more than a player to bring on when we were 3 or 4 up to close off a game.
Now when we see Bente, Skippy, and indeed Hoj in that position, I do think we desperately need to be rid of Winks, as he is little more than adequate.
LoCeslo similarly hasn’t really done much to ingratiate himself, doing little more than occupy the space left on the physio table by Lamella.
Gil I just think the timing is, wrong for him with us
Bergs I’m still on the fence, as I think he is better than Lucas.
N Dombers take what we can get, let him do his “lollipops” and fall over in the French league for 60 min max.
We must get players with a work ethic into our club prepared to give it all for what ever minutes they are given, to compete for places, because for too long, too many players were guaranteed a shirt and it made them complacent. And that became a Spurs disease for about 3 seasons.
    Antidote is Antonio.

  • Arky says:

But but but Niall D, what does Antonio say about Winks and Bergs in his pressers ? Gil, Lo Celso and NDombele are never mentioned you know.

    • Love totty says:

I’m not sure we will be able to better Bergs or Lucas as squad players. They are not first pick obviously but injuries mean they will have to play their part. My concern is having a back up for Bents. Skippy and Hoj aren’t great together.

      • Love totty says:

May 12th. Our date with destiny. Palace have done us a huge favour and our chance to finish 4th is now in our own hands. Hard to believe I know but been a Spurs supporter too long to be overly confident.

        • Arky says:

Look at it from this point of view, Arteta vs Rangnick vs Conte. Who do you want in your corner ? I hope this helps to spur some confidence.

      • Arky says:

        Horses for courses indeed !

  • jod says:

Doesn’t 48 hrs make a difference. Arsenal now only have one game in hand and we have a superior goal difference. I’ve said before that Arsenal were where they were not because they had better players but because they were more consistent. The game last night showed that, man for man they were no better than Palace who wanted it more. But while ourselves and United had better squads we were both just throwing points away. Now Conte seems to be finally getting us playing as a team and hopefully we will keep the pressure on for the remaining games. If we do get that fourth spot it will be huge, not just the extra revenue but in terms of attracting players.

  • jod says:

Maybe I should make another attempt at what taking a team to another level means to me. For a player to do that on his own, for the results to dramatically change depending on whether he plays or not, he has to be very special. What we have seen at Spurs in the past few games is something different. Every player has upped his game from earlier in the season, the team has taken itself to another level. Hopefully it will stay there.

    • PompeyYid says:

Jod, your line/sentence starting…Every player…so very bloody true there! COYS

  • BelgianSpur says:

And Arsenal’s game in hand is away at Stamford Bridge.

    • PompeyYid says:

That game BS could be titled a Cup Final, the score is very important to both sides. COYS
