Match Thread – Can Spurs Do The Unlikely & Punish Pep Again

|

Following on from Wednesday’s barnstorming FA Cup classic with Everton, Tottenham Hotspur will be holding some small hope of getting back to winning ways on Saturday as we make the trip up to in form table toppers, Manchester City.

Having played so often on a Sunday this season, many fans will be questioning why we didn’t at least get an extra 24 hours off this time, as with extra time on top, it was hardly the best preparation for this one, but we’ll just have to get on with it.

Pep Guardiola has a few injury concerns of his own, with the main one for us being Gareth Bale again but whether we get a slice of luck with either Sergio Reguilon or Serge Aurier and an earlier than expected return for them, well, manager Jose Mourinho’s press conference today will answer those questions.

Despite our 2-0 victory back at the end of November, City are a changed side now, so I imagine I’m not alone in hoping we at least take a point here.

Tell DL, not one pence for Spurs kits, jerseys, scarves, beer, until JM is gone, gone, gone. Money is the sole thing of importance to the DL types in this world. threaten his pocketbook.

So sick and tired of rhw negativity associated with the world’s most positive and beautiful team when it has José the Mean Man Mourinho on the touchline. 2024 is too late to see someone more positive on the touchline.

And please, no team meetings with players and JM to air feelings. It will not go well. It merely will provide more targets for José to direct his negativity. A complete roster of Dele Alli. Talent gone to the depths of hell.

  • TK says:

Email DL and demand our freedom. or else he’ll not see our crisp notes going into his till.

who’s got a fax machine these days? No wonder he has trouble with transfers. He’s still living in the 1980s.

Irritate the bastard until we have a decent manager.

threaten to withhold your hard cold cash. No gifts to the grandkids of Spurs kits.

TK you are speaking on behalf of most of us. This has been a dire(!) time in Spurs history almost as bad as the One Day Ramos era and he won a tin pot that meant nothing. Levy will find it difficult to get rid of Moanino because of the usual huge pay off the usual wangles. Also Levy must realise he made a massive mistake and should hold his head in shame. We did not want Moaner with his defensive tactics and ghastly man management. He is a dinosaur and years past his best. Totally unforgivable. How long do we have to put up with this has been?????

  • TK says:

We have to put up with this horrid situation as long as we put up with it. We need to make DL aware of the danger to THFC of continuing with Mourinho. Spread the email address of DL to every Spurs supporter and start to make DL uncomfortable. His rotten decision has made us uncomfortable. We should make this Daniel Levy uncomfortable. Tell him that as long as Mourinho remains, we’ll stop buying kits and things. If we go to the stadium, we’ll boycott the brewery. There is no hell like a Spurs supporter taken for granted. We can make it thus. If we want. I’m sending a daily email to DL. You can do so too. It’s fun and it feels good. At least I have the illusion of doing something other than bitching here.

  • TK says:

Illusions are, after all, all that most supporters ever have. Put our illusions to use.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Good to have you back Frank, we were concerned you may have succumbed to the virus!

  • Niall D says:

    Just thinking out loud here,
I’m wondering has Lloris had his head turned by Poch’s arrival at PSG and has half an eye on a summer move which makes me wonder has he (unconsciously) done an Ericsson and in real terms downed tools for Spurs giving us about 75% to encourage a summer move.
It’s just me thinking that there are some players who have a life span at a team then it’s time to move on, there’s really no body competing with him for his position, he’s guaranteed fist name on the team really no matter what his performance.
I don’t think he should be captain, I’ve watched a few incidents now where either Kane, Dier, or Hoj has shown leadership but never actually Lloris.
I think he does need to be humbled a bit to let him focus on who is paying his wages and what for.

  • block 108 spurs says:

Niall… I have also thought that Lloris is worrying with his form over last 2 months. He is not catching the ball, anymore just parrying and his positioning a bit off by a half a yard or so. Could be he has PSG thoughts, and by letting gazza go was an error this season, as to back up.

TK your idea of a boycott of WHL catering / merchandising facilities may have some merit, but it needs a huge part of the 62k stadium crowd to do this at every home game, which from my personal experience at home games is unlikely, and Mr Levy knows this.

  • TK says:

you’re doubtless right, block 108. But if something like this were organized DL would crumble like a rhubarb crumble in the hands of Baldrick while wiping a horse’s bottom.

  • TK says:

Is it really Frank? Our Frank of dump DL fame? Good God, man. You’re alive! Best news of the month. I thought we’d lost a real supporter.

  • TK says:

I’ve been buying spurs jerseys for the grandkids in two countries for years. Not this year.

  • Niall D says:

Part of what worries me is, the way we are currently playing, would any kids really want a Spurs shirt, we’re losing young supporters here. We’re not winning anything and not good to watch, why would a young person be attracted to support Tottenham currently:-(

    • TK says:

true that, Niall. But there are plenty of people who buy these things because of generations of support in the family.

  • PompeyYid says:

Frank, great to see you back, myself like others was/were getting worried and concerned about your wellbeing.

Regards Lloris, head being turned, not sure on that principle, but obviously possible, my thinking is not having a regular back 4 or 5 in front of him, JM’s continuous rotation of them, not withstanding injury obviously, I was always led to believe workout your best 4 or 5, stick with it, then work out the rest in front of them, for me this gives the GK a chance to build an understanding with those in front of him, as in knowing their individual fore’s and against’s, pro’s n con’s if you like, any GK’s amongst us will understand what I am saying, hopefully! lol! • Geofspurs says:

Welcome back, Frank, you’ve been missed. Hope all is well with you, mate.

  • Allan says:

    Good morning
Totally concur with much of what has been said by many on the site . I have also registered my opinion about the current dire situation with the team .
Levy is the last person I would like to defend but when he sacked Poch who was available to take over and take the team on , which needed overhauling , at that time in the season ?
To be fair he did get us playing football and moved us up the league to qualify for Europe . He was given a small budget in the Summer TW and bought or borrowed players which met with general approval .
Unfortunately Regilon? , Lo Celso , Bale and Doherty haven’t worked out due to injury or unsuitability . Bergwijn doesn’t seem to have it . Added to that the creative side of midfield has been left to Ndombele who is subbed after 65 mins and replaced with Winks or Dele .
I would like Mourinho gone but all the time we have Levy making great managerial mistakes ( either to do with personalities or transfer funds ) then the club will not progress .
Incidentally Harry is reported to be backing JM . Is that a Mourinho publicity ploy ?

    • PompeyYid says:

      Allan
Our Arry backing JM, I think its his way of politics, not rocking the boat etc, so probably bull***t simple as that. COYS

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Frank – great to have you back. I would love to hear your thoughts on Jose Mourinho and the style of football. Do you think he will eventually be successful at Spurs or will he end up as another Levy error.

  • Allan says:

Take your point PY but why play politics and have a comment like that made public at this time when it is obvious that the team is not performing .
Why not just say nothing ?

  • Niall D says:

    PY
    Take your point re Lloris.
I suppose when he was at his best it was with Walker, Tobs, Verts, Rose and you could bank on that every week. I have also been saying this for sometime about a settled back 4. Make it Tobs and Dier with Regs and Aurier then suffer the consequences.
But I still argue that Lloris is not captain material.
Like many here good to see Frank’s name back in the thread.
