Match Thread – Can Spurs Do The Unlikely & Punish Pep Again

|

Following on from Wednesday’s barnstorming FA Cup classic with Everton, Tottenham Hotspur will be holding some small hope of getting back to winning ways on Saturday as we make the trip up to in form table toppers, Manchester City.

Having played so often on a Sunday this season, many fans will be questioning why we didn’t at least get an extra 24 hours off this time, as with extra time on top, it was hardly the best preparation for this one, but we’ll just have to get on with it.

Pep Guardiola has a few injury concerns of his own, with the main one for us being Gareth Bale again but whether we get a slice of luck with either Sergio Reguilon or Serge Aurier and an earlier than expected return for them, well, manager Jose Mourinho’s press conference today will answer those questions.

Despite our 2-0 victory back at the end of November, City are a changed side now, so I imagine I’m not alone in hoping we at least take a point here.

As of now we are midtable. In the past few weeks we’ve been sinking in the table. So, on current form we are in the low end of the table. Keep going in the same direction and we should start discussing the possibility of relegation. Good God, we’ll need to bring back Lord Sugar (oh my god) and Terry Venables to bring us back up. A future too miserable to contemplate further.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I think we must have softened up Everton for Fulham, the former have looked totally out of sorts in the first half while the latter have looked very lively and come closest to scoring.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Can’t believe tonights Everton side are the same that beat us on Wednesday, 2 down at home to Fulham after 65 minutes. Richarlison had just 4 touchs in the whole of the first half.

  • Frank Dore says:

We are regressing at an alarming rate and playing football nobody wants to watch. We have zero creativity and try to play defensive but can’t defend. Thank Christ for Kane and Son, without them we would be scrapping it out with Fulham, Sheff Utd, and WBA. Hopefully JM will move on after his usual 2 years.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Looks like they burnt themselves out beating us on Wednesday and they have to play City this Wednesday and Liverpool next Saturday!

  • 123spurs says:

TQ I was thinking the exact things, only a matter of days gone by.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Or another way of looking at it……Scotty Parker managed to come up with a game plan and motivate his players to win and Jose didn’t!

  • TK says:

One thing is for sure. No one at Everton got worn out playing against Spurs on the 4 days ago. That leaves TQ2’s theory as the only one on the board. JM cannot come up with a workable plan these days, and cannot motivate anyone these days. Dl, have JM trade places with the tea server.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

TK…in the first lockdown JM was helping distribute the vegetables from the training ground kitchen garden. Seems quite an appropriate alternative position for him. :- )

  • TK says:

Distributing vegetables for the training ground kitchen garden elevates JM from an egocentric git to someone truly worthwhile. It could be his salvation. If he completes such a transformation, I’d be forced to give him credit. Let’s see. Bur first I’d appreciate his resignation as manager at THFC. Now that would be a decent thing to do. If DL continues to pay him, JM should consider following the advise of JC: give your money to the poor. JM has a lot for which to apologize. Avert your eyes ye who see mainly yourself. And when you distribute vegetables to the hungry be sure there are no cameras nearby.

Charity in the service of one’s own glory hardly is charitable.

Oops! Is it too late to remove this uncharitable comment?

  • PompeyYid says:

Fellow fans, here is a WARNING, be very afraid! Levy will not sack JM, he will be here next season, you have been warned. COYS

  • PompeyYid says:

Forgot to add….WE ARE DOOMED. COYS

  • PompeyYid says:

Wet Spam next in the lge, as an optimist I have a fear for us v the formidable! team that plays on a Council Ground.

An early Status Quo record comes to mind…Down Down. COYS

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

PompyYid- thanks for cheering me up. IMO Jose will be here until we can no longer qualify for the Champions League i:e as soon as we are knocked out of the Europa League – probably in the last sixteen tie. We have no chance of qualifying through the league. I don’t think Jose will be here next season – at least I bloody hope not. COYS

  • PompeyYid says:

Donny, you are quite welcome lol! I love cheering people up! lol!

Levy will not sack Moaninosarous Pasthis, even if we are not in Europe next season, which is looking the most likely, he will keep him for next season so he can “turn it around”, I am so sorry to say those words.

Keep hoping mate like the rest of us. COYS

  • PompeyYid says:

Donny, some further good news mate, it appears according the The Football Insider paper, “Our Arry” has given his full backing for JM and his tactics, oops! COYS

  • Niall D says:

    PY
Much like you I “was” on the fence about Mourinho, and to a degree excused some of his tactic due to the squad he inherited, but just like we said, we gave him a good year to turn things round, which hasn’t happened, we do look Clueless and without ambition, particularly against those “higher up clubs” much as I now want him out, I fear yuor prediction will possibly be right, I had a fair idea he would be here until the end of the season then perhaps go, on this occasion m8 I do hope you’re wrong.

    • PompeyYid says:

Niall, here’s more doom n gloom, I just discovered JM’s contract is till summer 23, it could be 2 more seasons after this one with him at the helm of good ship Spurs that is sinking very slowly, sorry if I am the gloom bringer lol! COYS

      • Frank Dore says:

Yes it’s me back again TQ2, I just had to comment with not only our current run of losses, our position of 9th in the PL, and the way we play these days. We are now a typical JM team, the only thing that’s missing is that we haven’t bored our way to a trophy. Incidently when you see how well Fernandez and Grealish are doing it makes you see what might have been, well done Daniel we missed out yet again. 70 years a Spurs fan and it never ceases to amaze me how lacking in ambition we are. A show stadium is all very well but a team to grace it.

  • 123spurs says:

Not sure if this has happened but they should be in a meeting between the players, jose and levy, and find out what’s going on,

do the player like playing this way, yes or no,

will the manager change his tactics to suit the players he has1 yes or no

Things won’t improve and only get worse if these problems are not sorted. Failing g to get top4 will be a disaster and a huge failure for jose and the players

  • TK says:

123, a meeting of players with JM would be useless. None of them trust him. They wouldn’t be able to speak honestly. He’s a vindictive bastard and they know it. The result of such a meeting would be a squad that wants to leave.

Everyone knows I want him gone ASAP. faster than that, really. but I fear we’re stuck with him and his negativity for a couple of years. we need to alert DL where he cares: in the pocketbook. email DL and say you’ll not spend a pence on beer at his loverly stadium if JM is still manager.
