L’Equipe name which Tottenham player spoke to Paris Saint-Germain on the phone about a move

According to L’Equipe (h/t Sport Witness), Serge Aurier spoke to Paris Saint-Germain on the phone about a potential return this summer. He was made available for sale and had interest from AS Monaco, but their Ligue 1 rivals were also reportedly keen.

PSG were said to be eyeing up replacements for Thomas Meunier when a number of Premier League clubs were keen on the 27-year-old. No deal materialised, however, so their alleged interest in Aurier went nowhere.

Meunier could still leave PSG as he’s in the final year of his deal at the Parc des Princes, but whether the Parisians will sign Aurier to replace him remains to be seen.

Tottenham can’t afford to sell the 26-year-old as they’re short on depth at right-back. Mauricio Pochettino only has Kyle Walker-Peters and an injured Juan Foyth at his disposal, the latter of whom is also required to provide cover at centre-back.

No replacement was signed when Kieran Trippier was sold to Atletico Madrid, so letting another full-back leave wouldn’t a wise move. Clubs in Europe have more than two weeks remaining to sign players, so Aurier’s future will remain up in the air until the summer transfer window shuts.
