Latest report makes grim viewing for those who wanted a big summer spend at Tottenham

|

Tottenham supporters have been crying out for a real squad overhaul for a long time. The Lilywhites are in desperate need of some big money being invested in their squad, especially after the 2018 summer window went by without the Lilywhites spending a penny (BBC).

Now, though, with many fans believing that with Jose Mourinho in charge they may finally get to see their club spend the sort of money to get them to the levels where Spurs can be challenging for silverware, and the latest news is not positive on that front.

According to one of the latest reports that has surfaced surrounding Tottenham and their summer spending, it’s been claimed that the Lilywhites may have to get by and try and make use of bringing in some players on free transfers, especially if Mourinho fails to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Names such as Olivier Giroud and Daniel Sturridge have surfaced in these reports, and when the Lilywhites take a look at the article itself in The Express, it’s likely to bring the mood down even further, something which didn’t seem possible.

The report states:

‘Tottenham are staring down the barrel of a squad overhaul after such a disappointing campaign. After their exits from the FA Cup and Champions League, Spurs face another trophyless campaign, and Jose Mourinho has his work cut out in the transfer market.’

‘Chairman Daniel Levy may not want to spend big in the summer, however – especially if Tottenham don’t qualify for next season’s Champions League.’

‘Mourinho may have to be uncharacteristically shrewd in the transfer market, with free transfers on the table.’

‘Spurs don’t tend to go after free transfers, with their last deals coming during the 2011-2012 campaign, when Louis Saha and Ryan Nelson signed in January.’
