With Tottenham Hotspur absolutely dominating the telling statistics in the Champions League Group B tie against PSV Eindhoven yesterday evening, yet not entirely being comfortable in the game especially at the point we were reduced to ten men with goalkeeper Hugo Lloris seeing a straight red, the 2-2 draw largely ends hopes of a run in the competition for 2018/19.
Whilst Lloris takes plenty of criticism for his sweeping rush of blood late on in the game, and others take their fair share for failing to capitalise further on our dominance in the match in terms of extending the score and making things far more comfortable that they were, centre-half Toby Alderweireld became a target for frustration given his own performance on the night.
The 29-year-old Belgian was caught napping for their opener in the game, and he had a part to play in the equaliser, so he was poor by his own standards and deserves some criticism (neither goal was solely his fault I must be added).
Toby Alderweireld doesn’t want to play for Spurs anymore, no urgency in his game in the slightest these days

First thing Levy shows Toby when he asks for more money will be PSV’s goal ???? #Alderweireld #COYS

Alderweireld shouldn't have gotten caught with the ball facing goal like that, should have been more aware #COYS #PSVTOT

He made one in his debut, vs Stoke.. after all he is top defender, everyone could do mistakes.

Toby Alderweireld still sucks. He should have been jettisoned months ago.

Absolutely pathetic!! It’s so sloppy and such a stupid stupid STUPID goal to give away! Alderweireld what are you doing? Your suppose to be one of the top defenders in the league. Now we’re on the verge of going out after 3 games

Alderweireld has consistently been one of the best CBs in the league for the past 3 seasons…

Predictable derision coming Toby Alderweireld's way for that blunder. A bungle of Zippy, George and Geoffrey-sized proportions, but it's undeniable he's one the very best CBs in the world.

However, criticism as per some the above, questioning his commitment to the club given the credit that has gone his way this season for his performances?
Not for me.
He was poor but nobody is perfect. If every player is slammed to that degree on a bad day and the club actually act on it, we’ll be lucky to have members of the Under 9s on show in the future and they wouldn’t last long either.
