Isn’t It About Time Football Stopped Treating The Supporters With Contempt

Here we are at possibly the greatest point in British club football history and our supporters are treated pretty much with contempt.

Firstly, UEFA, as usual, give the true fans a meagre amount of tickets, whilst the sponsors and ‘hangers on’ get their fill. Even worse for those in the 2nd competition (Europa League) – they get less tickets still and are made to travel to a faraway land, even further than Baghdad I am told, with totally unsuitable facilities and transport to handle such an event.

For both matches transport and accommodation costs are extortionate and actually unaffordable for the average person – many of which will go anyway, by hook or by crook as they say. Supporters groups from all clubs have asked for help but the ‘nothing to do with us’ response has rung out loud.

Even the screening at the Stadium is being run as a profit making event!

Clubs should have been aware of these problems from the outset and looked at potential ways of helping the fans. Even if they weren’t prepared to help fans financially, when huge prize money has been gained from progression through to the final, they could have helped in arranging air charters to or near the cities concerned and possibly cheaper out of town accommodation with transport to the match.

Do any clubs really value their fans who go the extra mile?

Disappointingly and unfortunately they don’t.
