“Incredible Evolution” “Earning The Decision” – Mourinho Confirms Spurs Will Make Second January Signing

|

With it looking incredibly likely that Danish international playmaker Christian Eriksen will depart for some money this January and make the switch to Serie A side Inter Milan, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has also confirmed that the club will be turning Giovani Lo Celso’s deal permanent this month.

When the 23-year-old Argentine international came into the club in August from Real Betis, we knew we had the option to make the loan permanent either this month or in the summer, and with improved performances from him – now he’s both clear of injury and also obviously more settled with us now – the decision has been taken to snap him up now.

Speaking to the BBC following our 1-1 draw with Southampton in Saturday’s FA Cup fourth round action, Mourinho said of Lo Celso.

“I think the boy is earning the decision. He is making it an easy decision for the club to execute the options. Incredible evolution since I arrived. By himself, he made the decision that the club is going to execute the option.”

Given most of us assumed that Lo Celso was always intended to be Eriksen’s replacement, whatever fans might think about how that situation came to pass, credit must be given for moving so quickly here and surely it will help benefit Lo Celso’s confidence with his deal not being left to drag on.
