Reacting to an official update that club stalwart Jan Vertonghen has opted to extend his current deal until the end of the 2019/2020 season, many Spurs supporters have been delighted over the ‘great news‘ – flocking to Twitter and waxing lyrical over the Belgian. 

Vertonghen, who has made 311 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions since signing from Ajax in the summer of 2012, was at the centre of debate given his previous contract looked set to expire on June 30 – but now his deal won’t run out until July 31 after he signed a one month extension.
