Goals, assists and tackles: Pochettino should strongly consider bringing midfielder to Tottenham – Opinion

|

According to Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing AS Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini this summer.

The midfielder is thought to be keen on leaving the Italian outfit in search of Champions League football and Spurs are thought to be a favourable destination for the 22-year-old – his agent has already decided to fly to London.

It is claimed Pellegrini has a release clause in his current contract with the Serie A giants for around €35million (£31m), although Roma are thought to be trying to get rid of it by offering him a new deal.

We feel Tottenham should look to go all out and sign him if the rumoured interest has any substance to it as he is the type of player we have been missing.

Although Roma had a rather poor campaign, the same can not be said out the 22-year-old last season.

The box-to-box midfielder managed to put in a number of stellar performances in the middle of the park, as he managed to score four goals and provide seven assists in his 33 appearances across all competitions (Transfermarkt), statistics that we would certainly benefit by having in the middle of the park.

Those figures may go some way into proving how good he can be in the final third, however, Pellegrini is also rather exceptional defensively, as he averaged 1.4 tackles per game (WhoScored), which could perhaps offer Tottenham with the ideal Dembele replacement we have been desperate to find.

He would provide Mauricio Pochettino’s side with some balance that can be extremely difficult to find, whilst he still has plenty of room to develop and become even better in the future – especially if the manager can work his magic with him.
