‘Fully deserved’, ‘Excellent’ – some fans react as Tottenham midfielder agrees new deal

Harry Winks agreed a new deal at Tottenham, keeping him at the club until 2024, and some fans shared their delight at the news on social media. After Mousa Dembele left Spurs in January, Winks became an important player alongside Moussa Sissoko and has been rewarded for his fine form.

The 23-year-old rose through the youth ranks to the Tottenham first-team in 2016 and has gone on to make 102 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating four goals. Winks made more appearances in 2018/19 than he has in any other season at the club and is now one of the first names on the teamsheet.

In 26 Premier League games last season, the youngster averaged 53 passes-per-game with 92% accuracy, won 46% of his aerial duels, boasted 17 successful dribbles (74%), blocked 19 shots/passes, made 19 clearances and averaged a tackle (22) or interception (21) every 37 minutes. He played in the Champions League final for Spurs too.

Despite Winks having stiff competition for places from Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama, Dele Alli, Tanguy Ndombele and Sissoko next season, he’s still a player Mauricio Pochettino wants to tie down for the long-term. The central-midfielder has also represented the England national team on three occasions and could add to his tally in 2019/20.
