‘Yesss!’, ‘Great news’ – some fans react as Tottenham defender agrees new deal

|

Ben Davies recently agreed a new deal at Tottenham, signing a contract until 2024, and some fans shared their delight on social media following the official announcement. Davies could have an important role under Mauricio Pochettino next season as Danny Rose has an uncertain future and now he’s secured his future for the next five years.

The 26-year-old joined Spurs from Swansea City in 2014 and has gone on to make 168 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating 20 goals. Davies made 40 appearances across the board in 2018/19 and has been a key player at times under Pochettino. The Welsh international was behind Rose in the pecking order last season, but he may be first-choice in 2019/20.

Davies is capable of playing at left-back, centre-back and left-midfield, and he’s been a fantastic servant over the last five years. It says a lot about his progression that Tottenham are considering selling Rose and not looking for a direct replacement – Ryan Sessegnon wouldn’t start over Davies.

Fans on social media appreciate how good a servant he’s been for the Londoners too. He was initially signed as backup for Rose but could soon be a regular on merit.
