French international ‘turned down’ Tottenham in January, ‘hopes to join’ league leaders

|

Vital Spurs revealed on Monday that Tottenham offered Adrien Rabiot a signing-on-fee of £4.3m and a salary of £6.5m to lure him away from Paris Saint-Germain, but the Daily Mail say the French international ‘turned down’ Spurs and ‘hopes to join’ Liverpool instead.

The Reds are currently top of the Premier League, but it’s unknown how much they really want to sign Rabiot as they’re spoilt for choice in the engine room – Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita, Georginio Wijnaldum, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Adam Lallana.

Tottenham were keen to replace Mousa Dembele who joined Guangzhou R&F, but Rabiot doesn’t consider them a good career move after PSG. With Spurs having been eliminated from the League Cup and FA Cup within a matter of days, the 23-year-old may have a point.

Spurs’ recent disappointment leaves them with only the Champions League as a realistic target. Mauricio Pochettino’s side booked their place in the last-16 after finishing second in Group B and will face Borussia Dortmund in February. As for their hopes in the Premier League, Tottenham are third in the table and nine points adrift of Liverpool.
