Explained: Which ‘impressive’ 23-year-old have Tottenham been ‘tracking’ in Brazil?

|

Tottenham are expected to scour the transfer market to provide cover for Harry Kane. After Vincent Janssen was sold (Monterrey) and Fernando Llorente released (Napoli), Spurs have been in need of more firepower.

Heung-min Son has been a sensational makeshift centre-forward, but Mauricio Pochettino needs a player who is happy to sit on the bench and can take the scoring burden off Kane when called upon.

According to Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports News, Tottenham are ‘tracking’ Everton Soares. The 23-year-old has been ‘impressive’ in the Copa Libertadores for Gremio and has caught the eye of chief scout Steve Hitchen.

As per Transfermarkt, Everton has scored and created 18 goals in 31 games in all competitions, six of which have come in 11 Libertadores matches. The Brazilian international, who won the Golden Boot in last summer’s Copa America, has contributed 59 goals in 166 games for Gremio and may be open to a new challenge.

There has been a lot of Premier League interest in Everton, but no side has made any progress in procuring his signature – even Tottenham are only scouting him.

Brazil’s domestic season ends ahead of the January transfer window, so time will tell if Spurs make an official bid.
