Explained: Tottenham have to pay £22m and £1m salary to sign centre-forward

|

According to Calciomercato, Tottenham are looking at Patrick Cutrone and are considering signing him as backup to Harry Kane. The 21-year-old has made 33 appearances in all competitions for AC Milan this season, scoring and creating 11 goals, and has attracted a lot of interest in his signature – Tottenham, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid.

The Italian u21 international could be open to a move away from the Rossoneri as he’s recently lost his place in the side to Krzysztof Piątek. Sport Witness say Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso is reportedly unwilling to sell the centre-forward for less than £22m this summer. Cutrone earns £18k-per-week at the San Siro, so Spurs would likely pay more than £1m-per-year for a salary if they were to sign him.

His role in the Tottenham side might be a stumbling block in negotiations, however, as Cutrone wants more playing time. He won’t want to leave a side due to a lack of minutes to then be backup for another player elsewhere, so the Londoners might not lead the race for his signature. He wouldn’t break the bank for Daniel Levy, but perhaps his three goals in 25 Serie A games might put Spurs off making a bid.
