Wolves Star Should’ve Been In A Spurs Shirt Years Ago

|

I would imagine there aren’t many Tottenham Hotspur fans who haven’t been somewhat impressed by Wolverhampton Wanderers this year and Portuguese international midfielder Joao Moutinho has proven to be an absolute snip for the club as they captured him over the summer for only £5million.

The 32-year-old’s skill and composure in the middle of the park for them has certainly caught a few eyes in the campaign of 2018/19 and in an interview with the Mirror on Friday, he revealed that his arrival in the Premier League should’ve been with Spurs.

Back in 2012 under the charge of Andre-Villas-Boas we were in for the player and the deal was signed, sealed but delivered to the authorities 60 seconds after the deadline window had already slammed shut, so it was torn up and he returned home.

“It’s been close before but it was my mission to play in the Premier League. I’ve had one or two opportunities in the past. The first was Everton, the second Spurs. I am in the room but the next day I had a game in Portugal, it didn’t happen, it was one minute from happening. I had actually signed but it was one minute past the deadline.”

It’s futile to overly wonder ‘what if’ as back then he may not have made the adjustment to our top flight that he has this season, after all, no transfer is guaranteed to work out, but you can’t help but wonder what kind of difference he may have made.
