After tying Toby Alderwierled down to a new deal in the backend of 2019, it was often regarded that the same could happen to Jan Vertonghen with his contract also coming to an end. Yet plans of a renewal could be far from happening.

The Daily Mail report that Tottenham have no plans to offer Vertonghen a new deal with the club despite his eight years of service for the north London club and his consistent performances across the defensive line for Spurs, with the 32-year-old looking physically upset as he was substituted off in this week’s FA Cup game against Southampton.

This would be a great shame and (imo) a great mistake. He has a lot to offer thfc – not only on the field but as a defensive coach. The man has (again imo) almost attained legend status and to simply let him go would be wrong!

As stats from Transfermarkt show, Vertonghen has been a staple for Tottenham ever since joining the club from Ajax in 2012.
