It seems easy to forget that Clint Dempsey once played for Tottenham, and it is even easier to forget that the American attacker was actually quite good for the north London club.

The now-retired attacking midfielder joined Tottenham after a sensational season with Fulham that saw Dempsey net 17 Premier League goals for the Cottagers as stats from Transfermarkt show, and his first strike for Spurs was an important one as the former USA international netted the winner against Manchester United in a 3-2 win for the north London side in the 2012/13 season.
Manchester United...

With Spurs taking on United tonight in the league, Tottenham’s official Twitter account decided to honour their former player by posting a clip of Dempsey’s goal against the Red Devils, which was met with great praise from supporters on social media.
Here’s what Tottenham fans on Twitter had to say about Dempsey’s goal against United, with plenty of supporters reminiscing fondly on the former striker’s time at the club…

12 goals that year from a midfield role was good in my book. Never gave less than 100%, unlike other players in the team that season.

Dempsey’s time in north London was a short one, but plenty of Spurs fans had fond memories of the American…

A win tonight could see Spurs close the gap on the top-four to just three points in the Premier League table.
