  • Niall D says:

This time of year always reminds me of “Bullseye”
    Here’s what you could’ve won.
We tried for player??? But lost out, we’re just too slow and too tight.
With that said, how much of it is media, spin as PY rightly alluded to.

  • wentworth says:

Apparently, Spurs have hit the panic button and are now going all out to sign non-league Ollie Tanner from Lewes Town (7th tier ).
We should be panicking to offload our unwanted quartet/quintet to clear up our massive wage bill. Conte does not want them. Will they just stay at home? No point including them in any squads.

  • Geofspurs says:

Not sure why we’d be linked to any players who are not centre-backs or midfielders. It’s a worry!

  • Pauric says:

So we have seemingly jumped onto transfer plan zJuventus players that can’t get a game or ain’t wanted seems to be our plan of attack.utterly shambolic joke of a club. It really streaks of amateurs.

  • wentworth says:

Less than 3 days to go and Conte is highly frustrated at our lack of movements in and out.

We have N’Dombele, Lo Celso, Dele and Doherty to ship out with no takers. So we have to pay their massive wages whilst they stay at home. Quite ridiculous.

Will Conte be the first to go? He obviously was not aware of scrooge Levy controlling all that goes on at the club. He made it clear that we are desperate for reinforcements. What do we get? The usual faffing around whilst other clubs do the business

What about this Paraciti bloke? What is he supposed to be doing?

We have gone from the heady days of Poch with exciting, free flowing football to the boring, scrapping, dismal football of 2022. We certainly do not deserve to be any where near top 4.

  • wentworth says:

“Antonio Conte needs to walk out on Tottenham to save his sanity and reputation”.

    And Harry Kane.

  • 123spurs says:

Conte must knew what he was getting into and also how levy works if not its his own fault, also the flip side of the coin, why can’t a top coach get the best of these players an make them see their full potential. Conte needs to get spurs top4. Over to you. This is a good test for a world class manager without the unlimited funds. Time to step up conte.

    • wentworth says:

      123. Very difficult for anyone to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.
We are carrying too many duds who should never have been bought.
At least 4 of them should have been shipped out but Levy always wants his pound of flesh.
The sooner we get rid of the miserable Levy the sooner football will progress in our once proud club.
Levy is the big problem. Time for the fans to show their displeasure.

      • Frank says:

Less than 3 days left, still no news. Seems as though we are floundering around amongst second raters, In a panic to sign somebody, anybody. Is this not exactly how we have ended up with half a squad that we can’t shift, because nobody wants them.

  • BelgianSpur says:

PY – I take your point that lots of it is made up media crap, but without getting into the specifics of each rumour, there is no getting around the fact that it’s Jan 29 and there are still no signs of improvement of our squad. No outgoings zither – just immobilism.

Exact names aside, there is no hiding from the fact that we have stood still while others have at least attempted to get better.

Some like jod would rather be paralyzed into doing nothing, at the risk of getting it wrong, but that sort of thinking rarely achieves anything. Sure, we got it wrong with Tanguy, but at least the club tried. If the way forward from now on is to do nothing, THFC will be doing nothing in League One soon enough.

When you fall off the horse, you get back on as soon as possible, figure out what went wrong and try to avoid falling off again. You don’t quit riding.

    • PompeyYid says:

Fair enough BS, you have your thoughts I have mine.

We have no clue whats going on behind the scenes, only the made up bullshit by the media, as they have to make up stories to fill their pages and earn their money.

I really do believe Conte and Paraceti where given the outline for this season, so between them they are making a good foundation for the summer TW, getting all their requirements in order.

Conte however for the time being, rest of the season, will have prove how good a coach he is, yes probably try and make a silk purse out of a sows ear, I think he already knew that, also I cannot see, love him or hate him, Levy spinning Conte a line or tell lies as some have put it.

There has been so many fcuk ups in the past Spurs as a Football team are at the lowest ebb to some, personally I do not think so, yes mistakes have been made and yes there is work to do but it will not happen overnight.

We cannot be that bad, after all we are in a good place for a CL place finish, ok with any summer dealings, lots of ins and outs, thus adding considerably to the squad, we will be a whole lot better.

For me its “lets have patience” because as I said earlier the mess/fcuked up state, yes needs improving, we find ourselves cannot be fixed overnight, like some expect. COYS

  • BelgianSpur says:

Pauric – indeed if rumours are to be believed and our recruitment strategy now consists of buying the surplus players deemed not good enough for Juve, we have fallen quite low.

It could all be lazy media stories given the Conte/Paratici links to Juve – time will tell soon enough. But are Kulusevski and Bentacur really better than what we currently have?

I really think we should try to begin the rebuild this January if we can, as one important player could be the difference between top 4 and no top 4 this year.

Having said that, if we are just buying players for the sake of buying players, and today’s purchases are tomorrow’s deadwood, I fail to see the point. Either go for players of undoubted quality, real difference makers, or save the money for the summer, and accept top 4 is likely going to be out of our reach.

  • wentworth says:

Even non league Ollie Tanner has now turned down Spurs. He wants a more ambitious club. Boom boom. Are you listening Levy?

  • Niall D says:

Some good points BS, why spend for spending sake, as PY says, how much is media BS and indeed who (of quality ) in reality wants to come until they know what euro competition they’re likely to be playing in.
With that said I can understand the Traore situation, he has unfinished business at Barca.
Others not so much, we’re in the mix at top 4, the big name manager and “brilliant” facilities, even being in the capital hasn’t been a lure, so either we’re keeping our powder dry until summer, or somethings, amiss, I know what I think. 🤔

  • Geofspurs says:

123 …. ‘Conte needs to get spurs top4. Over to you. This is a good test for a world class manager without the unlimited funds. Time to step up conte..’

The issue is; how many world class managers do we bring in before realising the manager is not the main problem? The main problem lies within the squad. Every manager we have brought in since MP left has failed. How long do we keep blaming new managers for our performances.

Unfortunately, it is the clubs with unlimited funds that will win the trophies nine times out of ten.

BS …. I have to agree with your comments.

  • TK says:

Traore to Barcelona? Maybe this was a big favor to us. How many goals and assists did Taore have at Wolves? Near miss with a disappointment?

Of course, if we’d signed him I be raving about his pace and saying the Conte will smooth out his finishing skills.

    lol.

    • BelgianSpur says:

I think we dodged a bullet there, but if the alternative is nothing, we’re not better either way.

  • BelgianSpur says:

PY – you advocate patience but haven’t Spurs fans been patient enough already?

How much longer are you willing to show patience? Or is it just a never ending process for you?

We’re on the longest trophy drought for Spurs since WW2 and not exactly trending upwards.

You say we should have faith in the plan, but how many times have we been let down in the past? Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

Are we supposed to trust the very same people who have let us down countless times before? Sure Paratici is new to the set-up, but our recruitment committee still includes the likes of Levy and Hitchen.

Until profound reforms are made, can we reasonably expect very different results? Or do leopards rarely change their spots?

    • PompeyYid says:

      Ok BS I give up!

Though I have supported Spurs since the “Double Season” my first season as a kid, though I did not understand what all the fuss was about then, only as I got older did it get the drift.

Anyway am drifting, yes plenty of false dawns, but I will give this one a go because there is absolutely nothing I can do about the situation we are in and to be perfectly honest I have bigger things to worry about than a Football Club I have supported for 61 years. COYS

  • Niall D says:

    100% PY
It’s the least important thing we probably discuss in our day. But we support em all the same.
Like some of us have said, there is a decent few players in our club, we ain’t in a relegation scrap Like Everton, we have spent decent sums, and among the (apparent) dross there have been some good signings, we have a “good smattering” of our own players, within the squad.
Hell were in the, argument for top 4 with very winnable games in hand.
Yes I’m sure like yourself I want to see the squad strengthened, I fear we can’t do it all just now,.
We aren’t the only club being cautious at this time.
There is work to be done, perhaps a lot of work, we don’t know the background machinations and indeed what is “media hype”.
With that said I would like to see a fresh face or two n and one or four out 😉

    • PompeyYid says:

Yippee! give that man a pat on the back!
Your post is spot on, well said.

Hope you and your kin are keeping well!

There is light at the end of two dark tunnels, this poxy disease and Spurs.

I believe we will strengthen but not as fast as some want, baby steps etc you know. COYS

  • block 108 spurs says:

We have to accept that some of our players dont want to leave as on very good wages and minimal performance with a comfortable lifestyle… Also european clubs have limited funds now, and are trying to offload their players. All the hype is media and agents mostly.. the young kid from lewes fc not agreeing terms offered.. yet headline media say he snubbed spurs.. I would say he is a greedy boy wanting more money than he is worth ! yet journo hacks twist the story to bad mouth spurs again.

Currently spurs team situation… Levy has himself / hitchen to blame as he did not back poch 3.5 years ago and put too much effort time and money into the stadium, deciding on pro players / football team matters which he doesn’t really know about (not played professionally ) and should be regretting this now in hindsight.

However levy has started to improve a little by appointing DoF and a top manager conte
we can only hope they get the players to play above themselves and get CL places like poch did 🙂 COYS

  • TK says:

we shall see tomorrow. will DL bring in dross just to say he’s done something? can DL and his staff recognize real talent and potential? the evidence suggests this is a weakness for them.

i’d rather nothing than some more lads who will disappoint.

The wrong attitude in a player will deaden all the talent in the cosmos, but attitude alone buys a lot of running about with no result.

Talent and desire and dedication: how do you find all three in one player? for lack any one is sufficient to bring tears to the eyes in the end.

no more one-footed players. They cut the work of the opposition in half as we already know which way they will cut.

    • Love totty says:

Squad motivation and cohesion are all important as evidenced by what Trippier said about losing the influence of Dembele. What will the loss of his chum Lo Celso have on Romero should he go i wonder. Losing Sissoko was the final straw for NDombele it seems. They all need a lift from a positive signing or two I feel v

    • BelgianSpur says:

Well, talented, dedicated footballers who are full of desire are wanted commodities and cost money.

I’m not saying it’s impossible, but for the most part, it’s very hard to find players with the attributes you listed at a bargain.

Being willing to spend “top of the market” money for “top of the market” players doesn’t seem an unresonable starting point…

  • BelgianSpur says:

PY – I am not trying to blow our “plight” out of proportion – indeed football is a hobby and I’m sure most of us have bigger worries. But this is a given.

Accepting that as a basic premise, we’re all here to discuss all things related to Spurs. I don’t think most of us come here discuss all the worries we have in our lives outside of Spurs.

You say there is nothing we an do, but as fans showed in the aftermath of the failed ESL proposal, we remain the lifeblood of the club.

If enough fans are fed up with the situation and demand change, I’m not sure how the club can continue ignoring that.

Which can only mean two things:

    a) either fans aren’t really that bothered, and are actually quite content with where we are

    b) fans are starting to grow ever more frustrated with the situation and something is going to have to give at some point in the relatively near future.

In many ways, VS is a microcosm of the full spectrum of opinions of Spurs fans. My reading of the situation is that b sounds truer to me right now, reading through the comments. Time will tell, but if any change is to happen, it’s got to start with the fans. We shouldn’t be ashamed of wanting more, and holding club executives accountable.

  • Niall D says:

LT good point re N’Dombele, he said as much last season, if his chums Sissoko and Aurier left, then he wouldn’t want to stay at Spurs, with that said, it’s, a high cost to pay a professional footballers wages just to keep his chum happy, he (N’Dombele) is extremely highly paid surely he has some like “many bellies” who Paul Gasgoine brought with him, cheaper than Sissoko…
Looks like there are moves afoot now, but who knows with this media hype… They nearly all seem to be midfield players no CB or RB 🤔

  • wentworth says:

Well here we are again. Yet another transfer window with nothing to improve our dismal squad.
No doubt there will be some panic attempts to get some unknown over the line or a cheapie loan deal.
Niall, you say we have some decent players. I can count 3…Lloris, Son and Kane. Of the rest we have a few triers like Hojberj, Skipp and Moura. Then there is a huge number who would easily be forgotten. Our academy is devoid of any future stars.
It seems as though some of our duds are reluctant to go. Lo Celso wants to stay…good money for hanging around and warming the bench.
I still cannot understand why Levy and Hitchen are involved with transfers. Just look at the ridiculous buys we have and then there is the fiasco of choosing a coach last year after the Mourinho saga.
Decent players must look at or club and think “I am not taking the risk to go there”. We certainly seem to make a pig’s ear out of some of the “silk purses” that join our club. How can so many players deteriorate? Is it our training? Is it that they were overrated to start with. Is it a lack of motivation? Is it just being “spursy”?
Well it will soon be 11.00 on January 31st and time to move on.
    Roll on the summer.
