    Cheers WW,
Point is, there are no real answers, some of em looked decent on paper, someone else could come up with a differing yet still valid perspective.
There are people paid much more than us to assess and worry about player purchases.
But there’s still time to get a few in and a few out.
I’m not despairing just yet. 🙄

  • TK says:

Looking at the lists of flops who’ve been brought supports the following conclusion:
Spending money doesn’t necessarily produce better football.
Good gods and little fishes, I just watched Ted Lasso beating THFC.

  • block 108 spurs says:

Some well constructed posts by niall… It is a lot of factors that have been in the mix at THFC over last 6 years (or more) to where we are today. It is interesting that conte has said the same as poch… a painful rebuild of players at the club is needed. I remember poch moved on 13 (or so) players in his first year at spurs, then progress was made.

However a major factor was the new stadium build costs, and levy’s extreme financial control mindset was a major part of the no silverware won problem…looks like it still is today, along with covid pandemic effect. To be fair.. levy has kept spurs in a reasonable financial well being status.

So what will happen next? another repeat of new development taking precedent over the team? Or will joe / levy /board directors do not repeat the same scenario on the team as we all have seen / mentioned ? Next 9 months will be a definitive time for spurs

  • Niall D says:

Good comment Block, and a point which I was trying to make in an earlier post re-the latest development cinema etc.. Is this where the focus may be this year rather than in football, and indeed, I think PY and others reassured me that this will not affect player spending and that it was linked to the original planning or some such, I hope I got that right.
However what if this, enevitably runs over predicted costs, where does the dosh come from.
But player changes are needed, I hope we don’t 13, but 2 or 3 just now, will progress us until the Summer.

  • 123spurs says:

Spot on niall, to many players averag 5 or 6 ratings.

  • 123spurs says:

Not enough consistency in the players 1 good game in 4 or 5 is not good enough.

  • Frank says:

Still the window continues to ebb away with nothing to show for it. Diaz now the latest player allegedly a target for Spurs. In the unlikely event that there is some truth in this, perhaps Levy should stop playing silly buggers and make a realistic bid in the right ball park, everybody is well used to his silly little games as are Spurs fans, they don’t cut any ice any more. How much longer is the Traore story going to run for, it is yet another Levy saga. Rather than being lauded as a shrewd negotiator he is now becoming a laughing stock, and the bain of the football insiders jokes.

  • TK says:

Complaints that DL is a tight-fisted bastard surely have the ring of truth, but that seems to be only a part of the problem. Far too much money has been spent poorly. Ndombele remains, I think, the highest priced purchase of a contract and it’s like pound notes tossed on a Guy Fawkes bonfire. Better to have spent the money on a community center near the new statium

The problem is not only tight-fisted refusal to spend, but also a ham-fisted inability to spend it on talented and motivated footballers.

I’m not convinced, for example, that Traore isn’t all pace and no finish.

  • wentworth says:

Transfer deadline day looms. We were signing Traore on Jan 1st and still no decision on Jan 26th…is this another of Levy’s silly games?
Yep and we will still be lumbered with the failures N’Dombele ( massive signing on fee and doesn’t like playing football), Lo Celso ( £100,000 a week for falling over and can’t follow instructions), Doherty and Emerson (painful to watch). Who on earth would sign these no hopers anyway? Oooops Spurs did.
Oh well, roll on summer transfer window. Let’s hope Conte can stick around till then.

  • Niall D says:

WW whilst I think in the last post I said I wasn’t starting to despair, now I’m not so sure.
We are cutting our deals very close now.
I hate the thought of, we tried to get???? We nearly got???? Pie in the sky.
Get a few in and a few out, (and I mean big names) spice up the squad, none of this 19 Yr olds from “Charlton” that cuts no mustard…. A bit sad but not depressed 🙁

  • Niall D says:

Well I rest my case from the last post, it looks like Kessie is going to Barca, we tried to sign him but?????
Let’s face it, if its true we feked and feked about as usual and lost out. 😭

    • TQ2Spurs says:

Not sure you should believe all you read Niall, last I read Barca were still trying to make space in their squad so they can register players that have already signed. Anyway, Kessie picked up an injury yesterday in the Ivory Coast v Egypt match at ACON. I’ve watched quite a few of his Milan and IC matches since we were linked to him and I have to be honest…..he is a decent midfielder but nothing special in my eyes.

There are still other options out there just as good but we have probably left it too late to do anything for this position in this window.

      • TQ2Spurs says:

This is from reports this morning:

Barca want to bring in other players and have an interest in their former academy winger Adama Troare – a target for Tottenham – but they are currently unable to register any new players until others leave.

Barcelona have also held talks with another Spurs target Franck Kessie about a pre-contract agreement for the summer but nothing has been agreed with the player, contrary to some reports this week.

  • BelgianSpur says:

The obvious problem with our current situation isn’t necessarily that we aren’t spending. As fans we can all appreciate the financial realities of COVID, and January remains a complicated time to do business.

What is strange, however, is that we are again stuck in football purgatory, not really going for it but not really rebuilding either. We’re just doing nothing and hoping the situation will solve itself.

If there is no money to overhaul the squad, I fail to see the point of hiring Conte. We could probably have just kept Nuno, or hired another manager who would have delivered a mid table finish while the club worked on improving our finances. Conte’s sizeable package could have been put towards that.

But if the club decided to hire Conte, pay his wages and accept dealing with his ambition, at some point we have to deliver.

What we have done here is hire a hugely ambitous person, only to be completely devoid of ambition in backing him. It’s incoherent and makes no sense.

    • TQ2Spurs says:

In the same vain….there was little point in bringing in Paratici if we weren’t going to do any business.

    • Frank says:

If we are honest, particularly those of us with several years of transfer windows behind us, the events since Jan 1st have been totally predictable, and expected. As usual we have been linked with several players, wasted 3 weeks messing about with Traore only for Barca to gazump us. The end result is that we will once again fail to strengthen, Levy will keep his wallet firmly shut, and Conte will join the ever lengthening list of coaches left ham strung and disillusioned by the inempt lack of ambition on the part of the board to compete for trophies and honours. Is anybody really surprised by this chain of events.

  • wentworth says:

Apparently we are showing a strong interest in Ollie Tanner…( yep, he plays for non league Lewes Town FC).

It seems that no one else wants to come to Spurs. I wonder why. I think it’s lack of ambition.
Really worried that Kane will begin to wantaway again. Conte will go in the summer.

4 days for Levy to delve into the bargain basement buckets.

  • Frank says:

Wentworth absolutely spot on. Levy would command greater respect if he came clean at the start of the window and told the fans that there would be no additions, no money would be spent and we will carry on with what we have.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Traore to Barca (didn’t want him personally) and Luis Diaz to Liverpool apparently. Same old same old transfer window story.

    • BelgianSpur says:

Yes, that is my problem with Levy.

It’s hard enough to compete with bihgger lcubs, but if we’re not decisive when we do go in for a player, we might as well not bother.

No point approaching a player if we’re going to mess about and leave enough time for others to swoop in.

  • wentworth says:

Absolute disgrace. We will be left with 3 expensive failures on huge salaries that are unwanted by Conte (N’Dombele, Lo Celso & Dele). We have several other poor performed ( Emerson, Doherty & Bergweijn).
Our transfer window has been like Sue Gray’s report. Dithering delay. Typical Levy and Spurs. Conte must be exasperated.

  • Frank says:

If we hurry up we may be able to high jack WBAs bid for Andy Carroll and we might still get the youngster from Lewes FC. These signings might just be in Levy and Paraticis ball park. This window has now become the annual farce to which we have become accustomed as Spurs supporters. As I have stated before, we will never become genuine contenders to compete with PL rivals until ENIC sell up and we get genuine owners wanting to invest and compete on the pitch, rather than in the competition for stadium bragging rights. Don’t anybody hold their breath for any increased activity in the summer, we will again ” dither whilst Rome burns” as we have just done with Traore and Diaz, both typical of Spurs deals, we have been here so many times before. ENIC OUT.

  • jod says:

Frank – We signed N’Dombele, spent £55m doing it. In the real world a total disaster, in your fantasy world that was exactly what the club should have done. You just want them to do it more often.

    • wentworth says:

Ridiculous comment from Jod yet again. Levy is the one who has appointed N’Dombele, Lo Celso, Emerson, Doherty, Bergweijn …..all total flops. He should leave transfer decisions completely to the experts.
There is no need for non experts to interfere.
All the dithering and procrastinating fro Levy is no doubt inhibiting any decent transfers. Currently no one wants to come to Spurs and we cannot even get rid of our failures.
We are a joke of a club without decent academy players, a poor squad and just 3 top players.
But we do (for a while) have a world class coach with no support and rusty old tools.
Man Utd will come calling in the summer!

  • PompeyYid says:

Lets be honest ere! the Traore n Diaz dealings are/were just made up bullshit by the media, along with all the rest of Spurs are interested/made an offer! tripe.

I never believe anything they make up, glorified total story tellers and so many fall their crap!

I know some/lots are not happy, but in all honesty we have no bloody idea whats going on behind the scenes. COYS
