Harry Winks was one of few players to come away with any credit for his performance after Tottenham suffered a 2-0 defeat at Chelsea. The 23-year-old has been a regular in midfield this season and has formed a successful partnership alongside Moussa Sissoko, but the pair couldn’t steer Spurs to victory at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
Against Chelsea, he made 102 touches, 92 passes with 97% accuracy, one chance, one tackle, three interceptions and hit the woodwork from a spectacular effort. He was one of the best performers and has been a highlight of the season, particularly in the last couple of months.
Winks has become one of the first names on the teamsheet, having played in 25 of Tottenham’s 28 Premier League games (1570 minutes from a possible 2520), every Champions League match (474 minutes from a possible 630) and every EFL Cup (the maximum 450 minutes) outing.
While conceding that Tottenham need to sign more depth this summer, some fans were still content with Winks’ showing in a difficult game.
Very poor from World Cup stars! Trippier and Lloris that was pathetic. Son was never in the game – no fight in him. No movement and we were too slow. Winks and Sissoko played well imo #THFC

Eriksen what a talent but was never involved and went missing, imo was at fault for the defending to Burnley winner last game and lacked that final quality, energy and passion! Rose should have started and Winks our best player! Trippier still living a World Cup dream…😔 #THFC

Still trying to digest the performance. Sanchez and Winks aside too many below par performance against a poor Chelsea side. Sats game now huge- when was last time we played well in League and won?#COYS #THFC

If we are serious about taking the next step as a club, significant upgrades will be required at CM and fullback. Winks and Sissoko have performed admirably, but they are not the midfield mainstays of the type of club we endeavor to be. #COYS #THFC

Tottenham have put a lot of faith in Winks, selling Mousa Dembele to Guangzhou R&F in January and keeping Victor Wanyama on the bench despite him being fit and available to start, and he didn’t let his side down on Wednesday despite the defeat.
