Explained: How much could Tottenham sell Harry Kane for? What club would he join?

|

Joe Cole suggested Harry Kane should consider his long-term future at Tottenham after Wednesday’s defeat to Chelsea. Mauricio Pochettino admitted it could take more than five years before the Londoners win a title and Jenas believes a player of Kane’s ability shouldn’t wait so long.

But if the 25-year-old did seek an exit from Tottenham, where would he go? And for how much money would it have to be for Daniel Levy to accept?

Neymar is the most expensive transfer at £200m. He left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain in 2017. Kylan Mbappe’s move from AS Monaco to Paris Saint-Germain cost £160m and Philippe Coutinho’s switch from Liverpool to Barcelona was for £142m.

Kane is valued at £170m by CIES which could be close to what Tottenham would accept to sell him, but it’s hard to see a Premier League club going near that figure. The current domestic record stands at £75m – Romelu Lukaku from Everton to Manchester United.

No English top-flight club have spent more on a player from the same division, and there doesn’t appear to be a top-six club who stand a better chance of winning the title wanting Kane.

Liverpool have Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi, so they may not sanction a world-record transfer for another striker. United won’t follow suit as they have Lukaku, Chelsea have recently signed Gonzalo Higuain on loan for 18 months and Manchester City have Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.

Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are likely the only foreign clubs that would interest Kane given his reputation and ability, but Bayern have Robert Lewandowski, Barcelona have Luis Suarez, Real have Karim Benzema, Juventus have Cristiano Ronaldo and PSG have Mbappe and Neymar.

There doesn’t appear to be any viable option for Kane if he did want to leave this summer, so he might be better off staying put.
