It’s what Wednesday’s were invented for isn’t it – evening Premier League football and the fixture list, or should I say broadcasters, decided that Tottenham Hotspur should make the short trip across London to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
With Chelsea having selection issues of their own, manager Mauricio Pochettino’s honest broadsword against the squad’s mentality when it came to being genuine title contenders also left fans with some questions of their own when it came to our starting XI on the night.
With the selection raising a few eyebrows, the opening 45 minutes were goalless and even though it was relatively level, neither side managed to get a shot on target.
The hosts started the second period the brighter and Pedro made their first effort at Hugo Lloris count to take a 1-0 advantage. With six minutes remaining, Spurs still had no shots on target and Chelsea hadn’t added to their tally either, but Kieran Trippier made a bad week worse as he was credited with an own goal to make it 2-0.
And that’s how it finished.
The word ‘wobble’ seems slightly more accurate than hiccup at the moment.
