Arsenal set to hijack Tottenham’s move for Brighton winger

|

After getting the better of Spurs in the NLD, it now seems the Gunners are getting the better of the Lilywhites in the transfer market aswell.

That is according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who this morning stated that Arsenal have opened talks to sign Leondro Trossard from Brighton – with personal terms already agreed between player and club.

The move comes as a surprise to many as just three days ago it was reported by the Athletic that Spurs had actually tabled an offer for the Belgian but had seen their £12 million verbal offer rejected by the Seagulls – who are said to value the player much higher.

That has now seemed to open the door to Arsenal, who have seemed to turn their attention to the Brighton man after seeing their attempts to sign Joao Felix and Mikhaylo Mudryk not come to fruition.

Despite being Brighton’s top goalscorer this season with seven goals and three assists to his name (via Transfermarkt), Trossard has saw his game time limited after returning from the World Cup, following a fallout with Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi (more on that here).

If Spurs are to miss out on the winger, which seems very likely at the moment – I don’t think it can be seen as the end of the world, which is the way some Spurs fans are portraying it. Trossard is already 28 years-old which means he is more of a short-term fix to our depth issues so I think it would wiser to go for a younger option instead, like Nicolo Zaniolo for example.
