With the Professional Footballers’ Association revealing their Player of the Year shortlist and the Team of the Season this week, their choices on both lists have been debated by fans across football but for Tottenham Hotspur, the omission of Son Heung-Min has certainly caused some consternation.
The 26-year-old South Korean has had his ups and downs in the 2018/19 campaign and he deserves a break this summer having already played 49 times at both club and country level, but he’s been absolutely key for manager Mauricio Pochettino, contributing 20 goals and seven assists and everyone knows the form he has been in since we returned to White Hart Lane.
With Paul Pogba being bizarrely picked for the side – I’m sure most Manchester United fans were wondering ‘why?’ – plenty of Spurs fans (and they weren’t alone) were quick to question Sonny’s omission from the overall Team selection, even if they gave greater leeway when it came to the shortlist for the Player award.
Pogba being in TOTY over Son and Hazard is absolutely criminal

To exclude Son from the #PFA shortlist was an insult.
But to leave him out of the #PFATOTY altogether? That’s a joke.#COYS

Son got overlooked but it's good because that keeps eyes off our players. #COYS

so, Paul Pogba in, but not Sonny or Eden Hazard. Hmmm…. wouldn't swap Son for the world for PP him! #COYS #PFATeam

No Son in PFA Team of the Year? And people will still say he’s not the most under appreciated or underrated player in the PL. OK THEN! #COYS

No room for Son in PFA squad of the year. Yet Lazy ass Pogba gets in guess half the Prem is scared to say anything bad about him, just like his manager who is scared to drop him. #COYS #PFATEAMOFTHEYEAR #FA #Spurs
