Opinion: Christian Eriksen has a big problem, latest reports are bad news

|

Christian Eriksen looks on his way out at Tottenham this summer. The 27-year-old is out of contract in 2020 and has yet to put pen to paper on an extension, forcing Spurs to consider cashing in early so they don’t lose him for nothing next year. Daniel Levy won’t sell Eriksen for cheap, however, as he regards him as a valuable asset, so the list of clubs the Dane could join may diminish.

Tottenham are reportedly requesting £60m for Eriksen who earns £3.9m-a-year/£75k-per-week, but there aren’t going to be many clubs willing to meet the asking price. Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are two sides that have been linked with Eriksen, but Real have recently withdrawn their interest and PSG don’t appear to have room for the midfielder – Neymar, Angel Di Maria, Julian Draxler.

Manchester United are the latest side to be linked with Eriksen, but the Red Devils might have to offload a number of existing players before bringing in another attacking-midfielder. United have Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Alexis Sanchez, Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford who can play in Eriksen’s role.

United, who tried to sign Eriksen before he joined Spurs, have a more fervent need to strengthen their backline (right-back, centre-back and defensive-midfield) so time will tell if they do make an approach.
