“You Never Know” – Former Spurs Skipper Barbs At Arsenal As Nephew Begins Making A Name For Himself

|

Former Tottenham Hotspur skipper Michael Dawson has stated that given reports which suggest nephew, Joey, is now a target for Arsenal, that the young lad would be “signing for the wrong side in north London.”

Having arrived from Nottingham Forest back in January, 2005, the now 35-year-old centre-half had a solid nine odd years at White Hart Lane, making just over 300 appearances for the club, and spending plenty of time as skipper and a number of fans have fond memories of his efforts for us, before he departed for Hull City back in the summer of 2018.

With reports beginning to surface about apparent interest from Arsenal in Joey’s services, Dawson was quoted by Talksport as being less than impressed with the idea.

“When I saw that the other day I thought he’s signing for the wrong side in north London! He’s 16, who started as an academy scholar in July and then got the opportunity at Scunthorpe with Paul Hurst and Chris Doig. He’s actually bigger than Andy. He’s good on the ball and as he’s young; if he keeps his head down, keeps working, you never know where that will lead.”

Currently plying his trade for Scunthorpe United, Joey became the youngest player in their history when he featured in the EFL Cup tie against Derby County back in August, aged only 16 years and 75 days young and although he’s waiting for his second appearance, clearly, there must be something about him.

I’m sure Dawson has already put in a good word for us.
