Will Spurs Give Life To A Struggling Blades Side – Match Thread

|

Having utterly failed to take advantage of a Fulham side that had to have match sharpness questions hanging over their heads, Tottenham Hotspur’s fixture this Sunday sees us travel to Bramall Lane to face a very struggling Sheffield United side.

With Chris Wilder’s side putting in phenomenal showings last season, the wheels have roundly fallen off the bus and they find themselves in bottom place in the Premier League table, with only one win from 18.

On paper, Spurs’ chances of taking all three points are aided by the fact that they will be reportedly missing seven players and although Wilder hasn’t named them, it could include Enda Stevens, Oli McBurnie, George Baldock and Jack Robinson.

As for ourselves, only Giovani Lo Celso remains out as Steven Bergwijn could come back into contention and of course, Gareth Bale now has more minutes under his belt as well.

As ever though, it comes down to us, our approach to the game and whether or not we can kill them off, or like Fulham, simply play in a manner that gives them a second wind and gets them back into the game.

It’ll take a brave fan to bet on this one as United’s one victory came in their last match, so you can somewhat see the headlines already.

Will we have a few answers or simply more questions?

Our ladies kick off at 3:00pm on Sunday so at least there will be some decent football to watch while the boys labour through the second half in their game.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

No I’m not Danny, I’m just finding it difficult to find anything positive in our play at the moment and although I believe there are some shortcomings in the mental strength of some of our squad I also believe that the management of the squad leaves a lot to be desired as well.

    Thanks Danny for another thread.
Surely, surely we can actually put at least 4 attack minded players on the pitch on Sunday.
We have, Bale, Bergs, Lamella, Moura, Dele fekin any body but the Winks, Sissoko blend we saw on Wednesday night.
Putting Sissoko in the right wing area must be an insult to the players named here.
Plus are our defenders not embarrassed having to play with a Midfield wall in front of them and they still can’t keep a clean sheet.
But a proper attacking minded team is needed for this.

  • Geofspurs says:

Two GKs, and nine forwards! That should sort it at both ends.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Blades 1-1 Blunts!

    But 0-5 will do……

    Up yours!

    I mean Up the Spurs!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Niall… It’s a proper attacking minded manager that we need…

Damn….. I promised myself not to be negative about Jose today……

  • block 108 spurs says:

As I said in my post on Fulham thread page 6………… We will need spurs players to be fully aware and competitive for this game. Sheffield will be boosted in confidence with their win over Newcastle, and by our performance v Fulham, and other games we have drawn after scoring 1st goal…. So a difficult game tomorrow and a spurs win will be by the margin of 1 goal providing the players keep motivated 100% for 90 mins + and jose gets the tactical shape 4321 (away game shape) selection and subs spot on. I would be happy at a 2-1 win for spurs. COYS

Thanks Danny for another match thread.

Well its the day before the game where misery, dejection, no confidence is setting in….

So bollox to that, nothing like that from me, thus with all the confidence in my heart and life we are going to hammer them….thus 0-4 for me, maybe I should seek help and get my coat. COYS always and forever.

What a game this is, the team who should be top of the league V the team bottom of the league.
    My concern is set pieces.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Sheffield United: P W D L GF GA GD Points

It really shouldn’t be that difficult to be optimistic for this match… LOL!

    HT
You’re optimism lasted longer than I thought.
    1 post :-).
If he (JM) puts the right team out we should beat SU, how often have I said that 🙁

  • TQ2Spurs says:

HT…..you’re right of course but we went into the Fulham game thinking exactly that and looked what happened! :- )

I used to so look forward to watching Spurs games. Now I dread them because of the frustration and boredom. As usual, I will watch the Sheff Utd game in the hope we can see a complete turnaround of tactics instead of the usual grab a goal and then practice sideways and backwards bore the opposition to death format. Please no Winks…the master of the sideways, Vinny Samways pass.No Sissoko on the right wing…what an insult to those on the bench. Also no bullying of Dele…either put him in the team or give him a decent run out. Your treatment of Dele is another boring factor. Give Bale a decent runout.
Amazingly, despite your distrust of talented midfielders, you are playing the skilful and exciting N’Dombele but he needs support alongside. Not players that stifle forward movement.
Despite the dread, I will give this match yet another go. Can’t wait for Levy to do his usual sacking so we can move on again. The possible winning of a trophy is poor compensation for the once mighty, stylish, attacking Spurs. Living in hope for yet another week.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Exactly TQ…..

You know, It wasn’t that long ago that I was being optimistic about Spurs beating Liverpool.

We play them again soon….. That’ll be interesting…

My first post was me actually being optimistic, but by reversing what my usual prediction posts show… Whereby I predict a big win for Spurs but then say 1-0 will do…

I’m. trying a bit of reverse psychology on myself to get me up for it… 🙂

  • BelgianSpur says:

Honest question: I wonder what would happen on VS if JM picked an ultra-attacking line-up, and we ended up losing the game 4-3.

The same people who complain about the negative tactics would probably go after Jose for being too open and naive.

  • Hot Tottinghm says:

That would depend on the opposition and how well both teams played BS…… And more…

We’re not that simple in the head, BS………

  • Hot Tottingham says:

That would all depend on the opposition and how well both teams played BS…… And more… We’re not that simple in the head, BS………

    • BelgianSpur says:

Well, the pitfall in that reasoning is that no matter how well we play, if the results aren’t there, fans will get on the manager’s case regardless. We can all accept a game or 2 where we play well but lose. But imagine if that goes on for 5, 10 games and we fall down the table?

We know what happens: see Pochettino, Mauricio.

In other words: football fans are fickle and you’re never going to please all of the people all of the time.

In fact, some fans will complain regardless. When it isn’t about the style, it’s about the results. That was the point.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

BS…..if he picked an ultra-attacking line up we could just as easily win 5-0, what would those who have supported his negative tactics say then?

    • BelgianSpur says:

Well the point of the question was obviously to drive the point that style and results are 2 different things. If we win 5-0, the conversation is a non starter.

I always like it when some asks a question with only A and B being possible answers, and then someone comes along with option C. It rarely does much to answer the original question.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Pragmatic is a word often used for JM and his tactics…

Can some one please tell me what is so pragmatic about the way Spurs are playing right now?

Second thoughts; please, don’t tell me….. I won’t believe you!
