“We Dominated But Didn’t Create” – Poch Pleased He Can Smile After Watford Battle

|

Tottenham Hotspur welcomed Watford to Wembley Stadium for this evening’s Premier League clash as we looked to put double Cup disappointment behind us from last week.

Defeats to Chelsea and Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup and FA Cup respectively certainly frayed tempers in the fanbase as we had a clear sign that our recent injuries had taken their toll on the first team, but tonight was an opportunity to lift spirits and get back to winning ways.

Nobody had told the visitors though as they took the advantage in the first half and Spurs needed Son Heung-Min to get us back on level terms with only ten minutes remaining in the game after we had wasted chances earlier in the game. Having spooned an effort from four yards out, Fernando Llorente made amends by putting us in front seven minutes later and we took a 2-1 victory on the day with a late fightback.

Speaking to the BBC following the end of the game, manager Mauricio Pochettino said of the performance.

“I think we fully deserved the victory. It arrived late, but we kept pushing. It was a fantastic second-half performance. The first half, it was difficult to create chances – we dominated, but didn’t create. It’s fantastic to win again after a difficult week. It’s nice to smile. The mentality is perfect.”
