    What a window so far.

We certainly can’t fault anyone this summer for not going after problem areas and not getting our business done early.

Time will tell how the new players perform, but intent is being shown, at least.

In every area, we perhaps all had our dream signings but the players we have brought in are solid.

I thought Sam Johnstone was a really good option for us but he wanted to play more than he would have at Spurs, and Forster basically ticks all of the same boxes, albeit he is a bit older. For the rest, he is spot on.

The same largely goes for Perisic. I liked the look of Filip Kostic but Perisic knows Conte, he’s a proven winner and an exceptional mentor to Sessegnon. Very astute signing.

Who knows if we’ll bring in more than one centre back, I hope we do, but Lenglet is again a very sensible signing. He’s a La Liga winner and he has kept the likes of Aymeric Laporte out of the French team. I’d love to see us get Bastoni or Gvardiol for the future but Lenglet is a short term upgrade on Davies and a good player.

Bissouma is yet again a solid signing. In an ideal world, I would have preferred James Ward Prowse for his HG status and set pieces, but not at 75 million. Bissouma is a proven PL player and should hit the ground running. He can be our Kante.

Richarlison is a solid option to provide plenty of cover across the front 3. He is good enough to start and I love his work rate. There was talk of Lautaro Martinez at some point but I think Richarlison may be a safer bet considering the PL experience. I expect him to perform better than Gabriel Jesus. I expect Jesus’ performances to suffer without all of the world class talent around him, and Richarlison’s to improve with more talent around him. Time will tell.

Djed Spence seems to be the only “gamble” out of the bunch. Is he ready for PL football? Again, time will tell but if Conte thinks so, that’s fine by me.

There’s some work to do on outgoings now, but at least the first team is 95% settled for preseason. How long have we waited for this?

Good post there BS, though one part I am not in agreement with, for me its a NO for Ward-Prowse, yes! a very good free kick taker and of course corners, but for me he gets lost in his midfield roll for long periods during games he is involved in.

Not sure he would even make it with us, Big Fish in a small pond at Scum of the South, it would be reverse for him if he was here.

Just read/heard that CE is in agreement with MU to go there.
Money spoke loudly esp after him saying he doesn’t want to move his family out of London.
Mind I did hear we dropped our interest in him.

Lenglet has passed his medical, announcement shortly.
Near agreement for Spence, might be a very good gamble at that.

Bergs! transfer all agreed, £25M, done deal, going to have a medical next. COYS

We’ll all have opinions on players but JWP ticked a lot of boxes for me.

No matter how you slice it, getting around 10 PL goals ans 10 PL assists per season from a central midfield position is nothing to be laughed at, especially with so little talent around him.

I actually think he might get better with better players around him, but we’ll all have our opinions.

Set pieces aside, another thing which counts against Bissouma is the ACN every few years, but we’ll just have to live with it.

Re Eriksen I would have loved him back but it seems the club weren’t interested. From that point onwards, it’s hard to blame him for taking the most attractive proposal on offer.

I do find it a strange choice given the competition with Bruno Fernandes or even Van De Beek. I think he would have been better served staying at Brentford but it’s his career and life.

With the sale of players and who we bought, we have touched much of the war chest kitty

I’ve watched Richarlison play for the Brazilian national team for some time, and I expect great things for him with us. Lots of competition for time on the pitch when you’re an attacking player in Brazil, and he consistently plays.

The man coming in from Barcelona, Lenglet? The two times I’ve seen him play on TV he looked ready to fall over too much of the time–somewhat like watching Lo Celso. Not so sure about that one.

But Richarlison looks to be a really good addition.

    • BelgianSpur says:

TK – following your logic about Richarlison, Clement Lenglet has kept the likes of Aymeric Laporte out of the French squad, and Laporte is an exceptional PL defender.

There is also plenty of competition for places in the current French squad and Lenglet has featured a lot, including being picked for their last major tournament.

So that’s got to bode well for us…

  • TK says:

    God bless, BS.

Hope your’e right about Lenglet. I’ve only seen him a couple of times and it caused worry. The proof of this pudding, of course, will be in how tasty it is on the pitch,

I’m really enthused about Richarlison. I’ve seen much more of him playing with Brazil rather than with Everton. I have great expectations for him, although Dickens warned us about such expectations.

Good to hear our new Ox/Winter will arrive next week. But not matter what he writes, we can comment to one another on any open thread here.
