Speaking to The Telegraph, the former Tottenham defender admitted that he felt he was forced out of the club following a disappointing season with Spurs despite reaching the Champions League final with the Premier League club.
Despite his remarks, some Spurs fans agreed with the club’s decision to sell Trippier this summer, and supporters took to Twitter to voice their opinion on the fullback’s comments.
Here is what some Tottenham fans had to say on Twitter…

He never had any brilliant seasons, he had a great world cup that is it the bloke cant defend, cant get my head around how short peoples memories are!

Weren’t good enough for a Top 4/6 club. Bang average at best, World Cup got to his head. Got a decent move for himself, best he shuts up and everyone moves on! Doubt anyone is losing sleep over it

Short memory. Trippier peaked at the freekick and had a terrible 18/19 w moments like trying to cross a penalty and slotting one past Hugo at the Bridge. He’s gone to a team that’s perfect for him to just sit and cross, we couldn’t play to his strengths anymore

He wasn’t good enough so glad he got sold but not replacing him with someone better was suicide and will cost us

He said that going to Atletico is a step up from Spurs. Whether that is true or not, getting that move in the first place is mind boggling seeing how poor he has been for two seasons.

Tripper has started off life in Madrid well, assisting on his debut and being recalled to the England squad ahead of EURO 2020 qualifiers.
