There may not have been many positives about Spurs this season but the emergence of Japhet Tanganga should offer encouragement to all of us.
Not only does it show that our academy is still prospering, but it indicates that Jose Mourinho is prepared to give younger players a chance.
Oliver Skipp is another who has been on the periphery but he hasn’t made as much of an impact as the defender, who has featured 11 times this term.
Could Tanganga go on to be a Tottenham great?
Yes
No
He has impressed against opponents such as Manchester City and Liverpool, with respective WhoScored ratings of 7.8 and 7.3. That highlights his pedigree, but also how good he could become in future.
Tanganga enjoyed his 21st birthday on Tuesday and Spurs supporters were quick to wish him well, while also taking the opportunity to praise his ability.
There was also a call for his contract to be renewed, and that should now be a priority given his deal expires in the summer.
Sign him up
