There are now four teams interested in signing Under 18 striker Reo Griffiths, according to the Mirror (via HITC).

The 17-year-old has already been linked with a move to Barcelona and Celtic in recent weeks, but it looks as though Italian pair Juventus and Roma are also in the running.

Barca’s interest was denied by local newspaper Mundo Deportivo last week, while the player himself has hinted at signing a new deal with us.

Speaking on an Instagram video recently (quotes via Football.London), Griffiths was asked about his contract and the forward said:

“I’ll be signing something soon, mate. Don’t you worry about that.”

Still, even if the player is keen to sign on the dotted line, the club should be looking to get him tied down to a professional deal as soon as possible.

His 28 goals for the Under 18s in all competitions last season show a player with a great deal of talent, and we certainly don’t want another situation like the one we had with Keanan Bennetts recently.

  • Get him signed up, at the moment sounds like we have another top striker in the making – if he makes it, he makes it if he doesn’t there’ll always be someone who’ll take him off our hands in the lower league’s to cover costs of contract, etc – keep the process ticking over.

  • Of course we have to sort out his contract out, the calibre of the clubs chasing him shows how special he is thought to be. He could make the ideal foil for Harry. 50 + games/season indicates there is enough games for both to feature. Could save us spending millions on a second striker.

  • Anyone what the story is with age? Does he have to be 18 before we can offer him a professional contract?
