Tottenham – The Good Times Are Coming (Again)!

|

So, another Transfer Window saga is almost over. This time it’s a fruitful one. There’s little doubt that this was one of the most interesting TWs in recent times for Spurs. And it sends a clear message to anyone who follows football. That message is; Tottenham is serious in its intent.

Levy and the THFC Board have long been criticized by many supporters for keeping his hands in his pocket. Many considered that his long-term plan involved making money rather than building a team that can bring trophy success on the park. And he certainly was not a risk taker.

Levy’s detractors are mainly those supporters who do not have the patience or the vision to understand what he hopes to achieve. They demand instant success on the pitch and silverware for the trophy cabinet. Life rarely works that way…. and football never does.

Obviously everyone associated with THFC, especially the Chairman, want success, too. But to achieve long-term success there has to be a solid foundation on which to base all of the club’s operations. Levy has long been committed to making his vision a reality and has worked steadily toward that end. We have all witnessed the amazing development of our facilities in recent years. He is wise enough to know that he cannot please every supporter because, well, because everyone is different. But he is focused and motivated enough to maintain his efforts to make his vision a reality. The product that is THFC today is a vastly different product than it was fifteen years ago …. and in a good way.

The perception by some seems to suggest that the THFC members of the management Board are either stupid or out of touch with reality. And I don’t think anyone considers Levy to be stupid. Without doubt he understands that to make money in business (and football has become big business) a football club needs to achieve success on the park. That’s what Levy wants, too.

It takes a great deal of time, and many things have to come together, for a club to reach the heights of its aspirations. Few have the financial resources to try. Few achieve it. And there are so many very good reasons why they fail. Not long ago Tottenham looked, and played like, potential champions. But it wasn’t to be. That chapter, and opportunity, has now passed and Tottenham have had to start rebuilding again. All clubs go through the same process every few years.

Levy progresses the club in his own time and in his own way. He’s the boss. That’s how it works. He won’t progress the club in the way I want, or in the way anybody else wants. He has a plan and he is intent on following it. Comparing the club now to how it was fifteen years ago suggests he is going in the right direction.

Levy has taken a huge risk by bringing Gareth Bale back to The Lane in view of his age, lack of recent game time, and tendency to suffer injuries. He has taken another risk by appointing Jose as the club manager. For despite his trophy success with his previous clubs he remains an enigma. His ability to manage and support his players when the going gets tough poses a few questions. Tottenham have the players. It’s up to Jose to make them winners. In the past Jose has not been one for the long term in his managerial career. Levy is planning for the long term.

All transfers are risks but the risks posed by bringing Bale and Jose to The Lane are at the upper end of the scale. Maybe Levy is a risk taker after all. He has made some sound signings, and he has opened his wallet and negotiated some clever deals in the most economically troubled times the world has seen since he became Chairman.

But Levy is not just the Chairman of THFC; he is a supporter. Come the day when he leaves his current position behind I would still expect to see him at the ground on match days.

THFC is a strong club with world class facilities. It is a club which is respected wherever the game is played. All Spurs supporters can be proud of this. And the vision that leads Daniel Levy onwards is alive and well. Levy should get credit for this. My overall sense as I write this is that, for THFC, the good times are coming.

For everyones information that doesn’t already know. The United match is in full on the THFC official website….. They have done this with most games this season…

  • TQ2Spurs says:

HT…….I understand we would need to sign Rodon today if we want to include him in our Europa squad.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Okay, I didn’t know that. Cheers!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

I’ve just watched the 1st half of the MU match…

Spoiler alert! Spurs are 4-1 up… And I can see us scoring at least couple more in the 2nd half.

I’ll keep you all updated…. But for now, it’s looking good.

  • Geofspurs says:

HT …. I’m watching the same game. We’re 30 seconds in and they’ve just scored their obligatory penalty (shades of the CL final). It’s not looking good and I’m afraid we’re in for a hammering. I might not watch the rest of it.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

    LOL….you two crack me up!

  • El Jefe says:

    HT – correct – “SPIFFING” – LOL!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Well lads and lassies… We won 6-1! Not a bad watch… But.,

It took me longer to watch the replay than it did in real time. I had to keep pausing it to top up on me lemonade and popcorn…

You know what? Son and Harry are getting even better! Is that possible?! So sharp. So good. But for me the best goal of the game was Serge’s. It was a sublime team move from start to finish…

    WHU here we come…

Up the Seven Sisters Road! Up the Tottenham High Road!

    AND…

    Up the Spurs!

  • Geofspurs says:

The United result was the first game under the management of JM that will remain a part of THFC’s history. Let’s hope there are many more.

You’ve basically got two types of football club. You’ve got those clubs that rely on funding from owners, of which City are the kings with the revenues of an entire oil state at their disposal, and you have clubs run as a business. Liverpool are currently the best run of these clubs and its Liverpool we are trying to emulate not City.

We still not seen the details of where the outgoing players have gone on the spurs website. I am surprised levy is signing players and only KWP has transferred out ? The books need to be balanced….

Harry Redknapp has said spurs can win PL with the squad we have…. I’ll not argue, and hope he is right 🙂

Morning all, the whisper I am getting from family members ITK, regards Swansea’s Rodon is that at first Spurs went in with £7m offer, turned down flat, £18m is now being or has been offered, Swans agreeing, Rodon up for the move, will wait for more news.

This seems to have come out of the blue, but could it be that Rodon being a Welsh international was recco’d by a couple of team mates we have, just a thought.

Back to article, again thanks Geof, simply put… Mr Levy keep up the good work.COYS

PY your info is usually sound.
    Jod.
Actually you may be wrong Talk Sport did a piece on the best run premiership club around a year ago.
And the finincial experts said the best run club from a business sense was wait for it
    TOTTENHAM.
Now that was a year ago and may have been subjective. Things may have changed since then.

  • Niall D says:

    Re best run clubs.
Report in the i on 29th April.
Stated similar showing. That Tottenham had the greatest worth 2.5 bn with Man C second at 2.18 bn.
Liverpool no, where near. At that time. Again Talk Sport had listed the top clubs. This time Spurs were 3rd but the other two above us had “Sugar Daddies”.

  • PompeyYid says:

ND…thanks for that regards info, my family member is like someone out of the old black n white films, you know dark sunglasses and its pissin down, long gaberdine coat, left hand finger tapping his nose, all very mysterious, but is correct a hell of a lot of the time.

HT, haha your lemonade n popcorn, love it, myself, I have watched my recording of the game, record every time so to watch again, twice, agree regards the marmite wing/full back, I also noticed the leadership/egging on by Hoj and the confidence starting to come through from N’Dombele, passing, drag backs etc, thus the reason why we bought him.

    Exciting times ahead I think.

After that game I have say NEXT! Bring on those Wham boys. COYS

  • 123spurs says:

just as I said before season started the players needed and have done and stepped up the 10% + and now we can see the rewards, not needing to rely on kane and son for goals. Great competition for places now in all positions, jose likes 2 for every position and he has got that.

  • Niall D says:

    PY
Ah I remember pissing down my gabardine coat after a few pints. But that’s another story.
Trust you and Mrs PY are well. Hope all my fellow contributors are staying safe and well.
    123
Good point re 10% improvement by all.
It shows what a bit of competition for places can do to the overall performance and help remove the staleness and malaise that was around the club in the last few seasons.

    https://www.90min.com/posts/tottenham-revealed-to-be-the-most-valuable-premier-league-club-01e734fxh78t

£2.5bn+ – blimey we were valued at only £160m when I bought in all those years ago now – LOL – bring it on indeedy!

Like I ‘ve always said our current market valuation of £500-600m is flaming peanuts – full realised value has to be more like this kind of figure when everything is taken in and properly considered!

Complete and sustained success hopefully ON and OFF the pitch coming very soon – loving it, LOVING IT – LOL!

  • El Jefe says:

AND the value then dropped to around £75m in my initial 1/2 years of holding – go figure – keep up the good work MR LEVY, etc LOL ………………!

  • El Jefe says:

    B108:

    Devine – £0.5m,
    Hojbjerg – £15m,
    Hart – Free,
    Doherty – £13.4m,
    Reguilon – £27m,
    Bale (loan) – Free,
    Vinicius (loan) – £2.7m,

    Total – £58.6m!

    KWP – £12m,
    Amos – ?,
    Foyth (loan) – £1.35m,
    Sess (loan) – ?,
    Parrott (loan) – ?,
    Skipp (loan) – ?,
    etc!

    Total – £13.35m!

Net spend of max around £45m so far (although we must have got something for the sale of Amos and especially for the loan of Sess, even Parrott and Skippy possibly also ……………………..)!

CCV and Rose future’s still to be decided for sure – possibly within the next 10 days within the EFL – let’s see.

Would though seem to back a report I read earlier in the year that we might have around £50m to invest aside from any player sales extra we could bring in this summer – seems to have been very appropriate and indeed correct!
