Tottenham in talks to sign Josh King as club eye Callum Wilson transfer

|

According to talkSPORT, Tottenham are in talks to sign Josh King from Bournemouth and remain interested in Callum Wilson too. The Cherries’ relegation to the Championship could see a number of players leaving this summer and we’re looking to take advantage on a couple.

How close are we to signing King?

Pretty close, it seems. TalkSPORT say we’ve met with King’s agent in London for discussions, so we’re leading the race for his signature. The 28-year-old has spent five years at Dean Court and made 170 appearances in all competitions, but it’s hard to see him dropping down to the Championship when top-flight clubs want him.

King’s deal is up in 2021, so Bournemouth need to cash in now while his value is high otherwise they risk losing him on a free transfer next year. The striker should jump at the chance to play for Tottenham too, so he could be our fourth acquisition of the summer if talks go well.

What’s the latest on Wilson?

TalkSPORT say there’s interest on our end, but we may have to battle Newcastle United, West Ham United, Everton and Crystal Palace to bring Wilson to North London.

Jose Mourinho is believed to have contacted the Bournemouth striker this summer and could have success convincing him to make the switch, but things are still at an early stage.

Wilson has scored 41 goals in 126 Premier League games for the Cherries, so he wouldn’t be a bad backup to Kane.

How much would the pair cost?

Bournemouth are requesting £25m for King and have slapped a £30m asking price on Wilson’s head, so the pair could set us back £55m. With King in the final year of his contract, however, the Cherries might have to lower their demands if suitors are put off making bids.

Summary

We aren’t blessed with a lucrative transfer kitty this summer and may have to sell Danny Rose, Serge Aurier, Juan Foyth and Cameron Carter-Vickers to generate funds, so it’s hard to see us bringing both strikers to the club. Wilson was Bournemouth’s top goalscorer last season, but we’ve made more progress with King, so it’s up in the air who we’ll eventually sign.
