Tottenham rocked as PL club enter race for 28 y/o who tackles more than Alderweireld – Report

|

According to information courtesy of le10sport, Liverpool have entered the race to sign long-time Tottenham target Thomas Meunier this summer – with this report claiming they even contacted the 28-year-old.

Meunier, who has started 14 games for Paris-Saint Germain this season, fighting his way back into Thomas Tuchel’s plans, is currently at odds with the club over a contract extension as his current deal looks set to expire in June.

Sporting director Leonardo has reportedly made no progress in offering the right-back new terms, and it now looks like the Belgium international could be set for pastures new.

Would missing out on Meunier be a hammer blow?

Yes

No, have faith in Aurier

Tottenham have recently been linked with a move, but now Jurgen Klopp’s Reds have ‘burst‘ on to the scene, recently contacting Meunier over a switch to Merseyside.

This latest update could rock Spurs in their pursuit of a capable challenger to current full-back Serge Aurier who has polarised the fan base with his Jekyll and Hyde performances.

According to WhoScored, while Meunier fails to match our right-back’s impressive 3.1 tackles per game, he does eclipse Aurier in terms of pass accuracy, registering a noteworthy 85.3% success rate.

The stalwart also makes less bad touches per game in the league and has been dispossessed a fewer amount of times, supporting the theory that he could be a more calm and composed figure in defence.

However, as Liverpool contemplate pursuing his signature, Spurs now face stiff competition from the European champions and league leaders.

Whether or not we decide to compete with the Anfield club remains to be seen, but it could be worth the effort.
