Tottenham linked with Croatian international struggling for minutes at Atletico Madrid

|

According to Marca (h/t Sport Witness), Tottenham are interested in Nikola Kalinic. The Atletico Madrid striker has struggled for playing time at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium and could be on the move in January as a result. Kalinic has amassed just 421 minutes of Liga football for the Rojiblancos and isn’t commanding a starting place under Diego Simeone.

After making the summer switch from AC Milan, he’s made 11 appearances in La Liga this season, scoring twice. Six of those appearances have come from the bench and he’s been substituted off in the remaining five. Kalinic has netted four goals in 18 games in all competitions and may go down as a pricey flop by the Spaniards.

It’s unlikely he will be sold permanently in January, however, with Atleti having only signed him months previously. Tottenham aren’t likely to sign the 31-year-old due to a lack of resale value and reduced transfer budget. A loan may be the only way the Croatian international returns to the Premier League, ten years after spending two years in England with Blackburn Rovers.

Spurs are in the market for a striker after losing Heung-min Son until early-February and Harry Kane until March, but it may not be Kalinic.
