Pochettino Answers Kane Questions & What It Means For The January Transfer Window

|

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has now answered what the club will likely do in the remainder of the January transfer window following the unfortunate and extremely badly timed injury to England striker Harry Kane.

Speaking to Sky Sports as he met with the media on Wednesday afternoon, the gaffer was adamant that our January plans would not change despite the fact we will now be missing the 25-year-old until at least the month of March.

He was a bit more coy on the subject of whether our plans included another striker option anyway, but he did heavily angle towards youth being given an opportunity to step up and impress and boost their own development in the meantime.

“It didn’t change all that happen with Harry. Son we knew was involved in the Asian Cup for a few weeks. We were always open to improve with Harry in condition or not, but in the same time we know it is going to be tough and difficult to add the player that we want. It didn’t change our mind, I think it’s a very good opportunity for players to play more, to step up. I’m sure it’s going to be a good opportunity for young players through the academy to show their quality.”

Poch went on to restate that we have a ‘squad’ and missing Kane for an enforced period of time cannot be used by anybody as an excuse. Our aim will continue to be to win matches and push up the table as the mentality had to be we ‘can beat any team’.

Whether his attitude has changed in private is another thing, but I would imagine most fans anticipated this to be his reaction really given how he’s approached injuries and the like previously during his time with us.

Excuse or not though, we have to hope we don’t pay for it down the line.
