Tottenham have a great opportunity to offload £34kp/w flop; must reduce valuation drastically though – Opinion

Surely Vincent Janssen will not be a Tottenham Hotspur player for much longer.

Despite making a couple of appearances towards the end of the campaign, he was never going to have a future with us. The fact that he was sent on holiday before the Champions League Final was a clear sign of that (Football.London).

Indeed, the Dutchman has had nothing but a miserable time during his time with us as he has truly failed to live up to the expectations that we held for him when we originally signed him for £17million back in the summer of 2016 from AZ Alkmaar (BBC).

Still only 25-years-old, the Dutchman has made just 42 appearances for Spurs in those three years scoring just six goals and providing four assists, according to stats collected by Transfermarkt.

Now, with just one year left on his £34,000-a-week contract with the club (Spotrac), it would not be a surprise to see Tottenham try to get a transfer fee for him one final time this summer and it seems they could have a number of opportunities to do so.

According to a report by The Sun, Janssen is thought to have interest from Schalke 04, as well as clubs in Belgium and China.

The Bundesliga outfit are no strangers to being keen on the ineffective forward as they are believed to have failed in their attempt to land him on loan back in January.

It is claimed Mauricio Pochettino’s side wanted £12m for him six months ago, however, we would surely do extremely well to receive a figure anywhere near that considering that lack of football he has had in the last three years.

We must look to take the opportunity to capitalise on any interest in him, but to have any realistic chance of clearing the forward from the books, we are surely going to have to reduce that valuation drastically.
