Tottenham “above others” in race for La Liga target who could succeed Eriksen – Report

|

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Tottenham are reportedly ‘above others‘ in the race for Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic who could depart Catalonia this summer – with the midfielder potentially presenting himself as a temporary opportune replacement for Christian Eriksen.

Rakitic, who has started just 10 La Liga matches this season, registering three assists in that time, is currently linked with a move away from the Camp Nou due to his lack of playing time – recently commenting to Mundo Deportivo that he would not be treated like a ‘bag of potatoes‘.

Having just one year left on his current deal which expires in 2021, Barcelona may want to offload the 32-year-old for a profit as soon as possible, and Spurs are apparently ‘above’ European giants Juventus, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid in the race for his signature.

Could Rakitic temporarily replace Eriksen at Spurs?

Absolutely

No chance

Indeed, as per this report, a potential Premier League move appears ‘most satisfying‘ to the Croatian international – with Spurs allegedly being the only English team in the running.

Former midfielder Eriksen departed the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in January for Inter Milan, but could Rakitic seemingly hold all the tools to replace his influence?

As well as registering more assists than the Dane this season over a similar number of appearances, according to WhoScored, Rakitic also boasts an impressive 88.3% pass accuracy on average – eclipsing Eriksen’s 80.3% success rate for Spurs before his move.

Even though the Croatia midfielder is in the twilight phase of his career, a debatable swoop could fill the hole left by Eriksen’s departure – but whether or not this would be a good move may depend on his valuation.
