Three Lions full-back labels Spurs transfer target as ‘top class’

|

Former Spurs right-back, Kyle Walker has sung the praises of Tottenham transfer target Jordan Pickford as the Three Lions head into their crucial World Cup clash with France.

Pickford, who has been one of England’s most consistent performers over recent years, is reportedly on the shortlist of players to replace current Spurs shot stopper, Hugo Lloris.

That is according to transfer guru Graeme Bailey, with Bailey telling TeamTalk that the Spurs hierarchy were looking at potential replacements for Lloris, with Pickford one of three potential names.

Speaking in a pre-match press conference (via Beanyman Sports), Walker praised Pickford’s performances in an England shirt:

“I’ve got nothing but praise to say for Jordan and congratulations on getting your 50th cap on Saturday. Hopefully, he can put in the performances he’s been putting in for the last number of years.

“To move Joe Hart off the pedestal was a big statement for him to say he’s on the international stage. He’s not let us down, he’s been fantastic and hopefully, that can continue for many years.”

Pickford, alongside Brighton’s Robert Sanchez and Leeds United’s Illan Meslier are the names being rumoured to replace the Spurs captain.

Lloris, whose contract runs out in 2024, has been an excellent servant to Spurs over a ten-year period – making over 400 appearances for the club. However, the Frenchman’s performances in recent seasons have led to some fans calling for a fresh face in-between the sticks.

In November, we at VitalSpurs compared the three goalkeepers to see which shot stopper should be filling Lloris’ boots, come next season – with our verdict being that England number one would be the best option for the Lilywhites.
