More bad injury news for Spurs

|

After earlier confirmation of key midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur’s torn abductor – an injury that has left the Uruguyuan midfielder doubtful for the return of Premier League football – Tottenham Hotspur have been struck by another heavy injury blow.

Indeed, Football.London has confirmed that Ben Davies has also been rendered a major doubt for the resumption of domestic action after picking up a stomach injury in Wales’ defeat to England in their final World Cup group match last week.

Although the exact nature of the 29-year-old Welshman’s injury has been unspecified, it is anticipated that Davies will take around 4 weeks to recover from the blow. This makes him seriously doubtful for Spurs’ first Premier League match after the World Cup Hiatus at Brentford on Boxing Day in just over a fortnight.

This is undoubtedly a blow for Antonio Conte, as Davies has been an undeniably reliable presence on the left of the Italian’s back three since he took charge of Spurs just over a year ago. Indeed, Davies has netted twice this season, and has featured in 12 of our 15 matches this season, helping us keep 4 clean sheets in the process (via SofaScore).

Nevertheless, there are mitigating factors in place that soften this blow – firstly, as is the case with Bentancur’s injury, the current international hiatus gives Davies an extended period of recovery, while Clement Lenglet’s presence means that he can slot straight in for Davies on the left of Spurs’ back three if needs be.
