“The Team Are Not As Fresh As We Wanted” – Pochettino Has To Be Pleased As Spurs Battle To Victory

|

With the weekend results more than going in Tottenham Hotspur’s favour, it was all eyes to White Hart Lane earlier this evening for our Premier League clash with Brighton and Hove Albion as the opportunity was there, with victory, to open up a small gap on the top four chasing pack once again.

Despite utterly dominating the game in reality, Spurs had to be patient when it came to the winner and taking advantage, but it did eventually come as we broke down an extremely resilient Brighton in the 88th minute as Christian Eriksen hit a peach of a shot that nestled passed their goalkeeper.

It was nothing less than we deserved and our top four advantage in third place is restored even if some feared it would turn into another of those nights for us.

Speaking to the BBC following the fulltime whistle, manager Mauricio Pochettino said of the tie.

“It was a difficult game, we knew how difficult it would be, how tough it is to break down the opposition. Brighton were a really brave opponent. The most important thing is we believed, we didn’t give up and we tried different ways to score. It is three very important points and to be in a good position in the table.”

He added.

“It is always about your confidence, Saturday will be another tough game against West Ham. We must be confident, the team are doing a fantastic effort after tough games against Manchester City. The team are not as fresh as we wanted, not just legs, but minds, so we have to congratulate the players. I’m so proud of them.”
