The Last Time Someone Thought They Could Handle The Son, They Got Burnt

|

The midweek Championship clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Ajax in the Semi-Final first leg at White Hart Lane certainly carried plenty of disappointment with it.

A 1-0 loss after a largely poor performance somewhat deflated spirits, but with the second leg still to come there is reason for optimism. The improvement as the game went on showed that, performing as we can, the talented Dutch side can be got at, and with the chances created we really should’ve levelled at least on Tuesday evening.

We can also look forward to the return of Son Heung-Min who missed the 90 minutes with a suspension.

We may even have Harry Kane back as a talisman, even if it’s only off the bench, but one thing is for sure, it’s highly unlikely our key players will be that off colour again and that in itself, is a massive boost to our chances.

Erik ten Hag was asked about Sonny’s return for the next clash following the game and he was understandably confident as he spoke to BeIn Sport (via HITC).

“Of course, he’s a very good player. When he’s not available for Spurs, that’s a disadvantage for them. But still we also have good players and very good players to defend him and we will do.”

Perfectly respectful as a response and I have no issues with it. I’m just hoping he does when Sonny packs 180 minutes of Semi-Final action into 90 to make up for his frustration at missing out.
